Today marks the 360th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Marines. Established in 1664, the Royal Marines have remained steadfast over their 360-year history thanks to the Commando mindset and unwavering commitment to their values and standards which set them apart as a specialised amphibious force. Former crew of HMS Swiftsure were invited to take a last look at the boat before the breakers move in. The S-boat, which left service is 1992, is the first of more than 20 decommissioned nuclear-powered submarine to be dismantled and recycled. Experts reckon 90 per cent of the hunter-killer, being cut up in Rosyth, can be reused – much of it in the construction of future submarines for the Silent Service.
