Our Cumbernauld O&M and Design South teams are participating in Movember 2024, raising funds throughout the month by taking on the grow a moustache challenge and Movember's Move for Mental Health campaign. During Movember, individuals are encouraged to grow a moustache throughout the whole of November and become sponsored by their friends, families and colleagues for their efforts. The challenge invites those who don't usually have facial hair to give it a go, with widely varying results! Through its fundraising efforts, the Movember campaign seeks to encourage men to talk about their health and to live longer, healthier lives on both a mental and physical level. The funds raised by the O&M and Design South teams this Movember will support groundbreaking men’s health initiatives, helping the charity address critical issues such as mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Donations to the O&M team fundraising page can be made via the following link, with any support big or small gratefully received: https://lnkd.in/eiebZbSy Our Design South team are also raising funds for the very worthy cause and any donations made will be very much appreciated: https://lnkd.in/eae4FgsR You can follow the teams' moustache growing progress on their fundraising pages, which will also be shared along with their fundraising totals at the end of the month. Good luck everyone!

This afternoon Day two of the RSE Graduate Programme Module 3 was held at the Kingsmill Hotel in Inverness. The event's second day was devoted to learning how to give effective presentations. The graduates were divided into groups and given presentations on a range of subjects, which helps them improve their teamwork and communication skills—two things that are crucial for success. This session helped the graduates learn about non-verbal communication, how to deal with nerves along with many other useful techniques to use when presenting. This module had shown to be beneficial to the graduates as they expressed it is something they can use within their day to day working life when dealing with clients and presenting in front of a team. Another successful RSE graduate event resulted from the eager participation of the 2023 graduate cohort.

This afternoon Day One of the RSE Graduate Programme Module 3 was held at Inverness Kart Raceway. The event involved several teams of our 2023 graduates competing against each other in teams in a Leman-style karting endurance race, whilst completing a series of other challenges. These tasks included the assembly of a Lego model based on an example structure whilst following a set of strict guidelines, alongside a series of other exercises. The graduates had to work together as a team to create a strategy for the challenge and learn how to collaborate effectively to accomplish each of the tasks. The challenge was a great opportunity for the graduates to display a range of leadership styles, whilst enjoying the chance to team build and network with other graduates from across our UK-wide locations. The graduates will attend a networking dinner later this evening before Day Two of the event tomorrow, which will involve learning how to improve their presentation styles. Thanks to Inverness Kart Raceway for helping to facilitate today’s challenge, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all our graduates.

The Spring Accelerator is an end-to-end innovation challenge process that has been created to identify innovative solutions that help address a significant need in the UK & Ireland water sector, reduce the duplication of innovation efforts, and provide a path to faster adoption. RSE is delighted to be official sponsors of the current programme, Spring Accelerator 4, that is looking to answer the question: “How can we better understand, monitor and manage emerging contaminants in wastewater?” If you’re an innovator, don’t miss this opportunity to have your solutions seen, evaluated, and potentially adopted by the UK and Ireland water sector. On Thursday 10th October, RSE was delighted to attend the British Water Women on Water Conference in Manchester. The conference was opened by Ian Thompson, Vice President & Managing Director of Xylem and Lila Thompson MIEx (Grad) Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of British Water who encouraged the discussion of two important topics throughout the session: - "What Do Boundaries Have to Do with Stress Management?" - "Menopause in the Workplace: What Does It Mean for All of Us?" The seminar delved into the critical role boundaries play in reducing stress, enhancing wellbeing and improving overall life satisfaction. Practical techniques to manage stress and establish boundaries were also ventured during the session, facilitated by Arianna Walker who is a Coach, Psychologist and the CEO of mental health charity, Mercyuk. The Women on Water attendees were additionally made aware of the menopause in the context of the workplace, highlighting not only the physical impact on employees but the potential influence on work performance, interpersonal relationships and personal wellbeing. As one-third of workers will soon be over 50, the effects of the menopause are important for all to gain an understanding of to create an inclusive and accommodating work environment. Our employees who attended thoroughly enjoyed the panel discussions on the important topics that can impact the health and wellbeing of our workforce and learning about the best practices to adopt to create supportive workplaces that allow open discussions to be held throughout the water industry. Thanks to British Water for marking World Mental Health Day by hosting the conference and providing such a great networking opportunity for all who attended.
