Imagine discovering more than 70 years after your birth that you were given to the wrong family. Our personal injury and medical negligence team recently represented an individual in a UK ‘switched at birth’ case. Shortly after their birth, they were mistakenly handed to the wrong family and only learned the truth as an adult, many years later. Following a mediation, the NHS trust has agreed to compensate as part of a settlement agreement acknowledging the harm suffered. Personal injury and medical negligence associate Jason Tang: "This is a landmark settlement resolving one of the very first claims brought in a ‘switched at birth’ case in the UK, and we expect more cases of its kind to come to light..." The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has successfully appealed the SDT’s dismissal of allegations against international firm Dentons over alleged historical breaches of money laundering regulations. Mrs. Justice Lang’s decision heavily referenced 'The Law of Legal Services and Practice' by Chair John Gould, a leading expert in professional regulation, which the SRA relied on in its appeal.
