"I’d always been curious about pursuing a career in law but was discouraged by the fact that my family did not know any lawyers. I’d always perceived law to be a prestigious career dominated by people from white, wealthier parts of society. Sadly, this perception was re-affirmed when attending firm insight events and from a simple internet browse of the people who work at law firms. This is also something that made me wonder if I’d ever be able to break into the legal industry. Before I joined RWK Goodman, I had the privilege of being a part of two organisations: Inspire Law Global and The 10,000 Interns Foundation. Both of them encouraged me to battle my fear of rejection and endeavour to become an exception to the historic trend. It is through these organisations that I was introduced to RWK Goodman. I instantly felt more comfortable knowing I would be applying to work for a firm that understands the issues I was facing, and that I would be able to showcase my interest in law and passion with full transparency. We need to speak up about the successes of everyone in the legal profession, no matter their background, to guide people who do not know how to get their foot in the door; no doubt there are many people such as myself at university or even earlier in their education who feel discouraged by the traditions of the legal profession. It would be good to at least make people aware that there are firms such as RWK Goodman who understand and want to challenge the issue directly."
