A primary school in Wiltshire has been given a net zero boost thanks to government funding. St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Malmesbury was built in 1932 and until recently relied on a boiler more than 20 years old to keep pupils and staff warm 🏫 However, a grant worth almost £100,000 from Phase 3b of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), which we administer, has been transformational. Residents based in Inverness and the Scottish Highlands are celebrating continued progress towards net zero thanks to an innovative renewable energy project driven by their local authority. Designed by the Highland Council, which is working towards Scotland’s 2045 net zero target, the River Ness hydro project saw the installation of hydroelectric equipment on the banks of the River Ness opposite Holm Mills Bridge. Officially dubbed 'Hydro Ness', the scheme has since become a centre of pride of the community, who have become its keenest advocates and for the climate action it represents. Stuart Miller, project manager at The Highland Council, said: “Hydro Ness is a great example of a sustainability project that has succeeded in not only reducing our environmental impact, but also in capturing the hearts and minds of the community.” Key stats: ➡ £988,255 loan value ➡ £1,703,888 project value ➡ £74,726 estimated annual financial savings ➡ 154 tCO2e* estimated annual carbon savings Read the case study on our website: https://lnkd.in/ehDQvWF8 #ScotlandsRecyclingFund #Decarbonisation #HyrdroNess #CleanEnergy

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.” This quote by Chinese philosopher Xun-zi provides a succinct and accurate interpretation of our experiences with life and learning. Alongside the commentary we’re hearing about the growing need to address the climate crisis on a global scale, we often reference this important skill. That is why at Salix we’ve launched a new series of webinars designed to help us share our knowledge across the sector. In an insights article shared on our website, we delve into the importance of knowledge sharing and the critical role this plays in helping us to achieve success. Our director of public sector decarbonisation Ian Rodger said: “We’re in a unique and exciting position being public sector where the people and organisations we work with are keen to share their experiences with others. “These inspiring people and organisations truly care to share and support others to flourish and succeed in their own programmes of work, for it is a shared responsibility we all have to reach these net zero goals.” Read the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/eRyNnxdc #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorCollaboration #KnowledgeSharing #NetZero #Sustainability #Learning

Watch 📽 resident Kenneth is now benefitting from lower energy bills thanks to a government grant delivered through the @West Midlands Combined Authority. The scheme supported Kenneth to install solar panels, a heat pump and extra loft insulation in his property in Dudley. In the video, Kenneth said: “The price of energy had increased in a major way, the attraction being that hopefully the scheme would reduce the charges and that’s proved to be the case.” Watch the short, two-minute video produced by the council to hear more from Kenneth about the positive outcomes he’s seeing now the upgrades are complete. https://lnkd.in/es6PuP3e #HUG #HomeUpgradeGrant #Salix #WarmerHomes #SupportingResidents #LowerEnergyBills
