This summer I had the privilege of undertaking a 10 week internship with P1 Consulting in Toronto! Reflecting on this transformative opportunity, I feel immense gratitude to everyone involved in the experience! During the 10 weeks, I worked within both the Facilities Management Advisory Services and Technical Services teams, working on a variety of projects. Some of these projects involved whole lifecycle costing analysis for assets and researching and developing forecasting models related to Greenhouse Gas emissions. I gained so many new skills and had a range of exciting experiences during this time, this was thanks to the entire team at P1 for making me feel so welcomed and supported from the moment the internship started! A special thank you to my managers, Robin and Dylan, for allowing me the opportunity to take on new challenges and imparting your wisdom to me. Your belief in my abilities has instilled a newfound confidence in myself! Exploring the city and experiencing new cultures with my fellow Scholars created memories which will last a lifetime! None of this could have been possible without Entrepreneurial Scotland, Saltire Scholars Programme, and Saltire Foundation Canada! As of last week, I have completed my 12 week internship at Krucial. Going into this internship, I had no prior experience in IoT or within sales & growth, so I was undoubtedly nervous. I’m glad to say that taking on this role has helped me to step out of my comfort zone and learn so many new things. During my internship, I had the opportunity to gain an overview into and contribute to the success of the sales & growth functions. I’ve had some great conversations with many people, and learned about industries I previously had no knowledge in. I was also able to contribute to some exciting marketing projects and developed my skills in copywriting and basic graphic design. I’d like to thank Sarah, Mathew, Lauren and James for all the support and advice they have given me throughout my time at Krucial, as well as to the wider Krucial team who all welcomed me so kindly from day one. And shoutout to Elias who is also a Saltire Scholar and took part in the internship with me! I’d also like to thank Entrepreneurial Scotland and Saltire Scholars Programme for facilitating internship opportunities for university students like myself. Our Saltire Scholar Engineering Interns, Chloe McKinlay and Karolina Mszanik, have spent the past 12 weeks developing an Engineering Change Order System, creating a functional GUI for retrieving key information across multiple servers and databases. Throughout this project, they have strengthened their coding, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, setting a strong foundation for their future careers. Their contributions will have a lasting, positive impact on the engineering department’s operations.
