"Back of the net!" – When Laura Watkins Chartered Director FIoD and CEO of the National Body for Neurodiversity, The Donaldson Trust says this, you know you’ve achieved something remarkable. In recent posts, I've shared our journey to build a user-led, #inclusive, online interview platform, co-created with the neurodivergent community. This approach centers on #fairness, driven by the belief that everyone should have an equal opportunity to succeed in interview settings, designed with diverse needs in mind. Going full circle last week from initial exploratory conversations in early 2022 —it was a proud moment to share our unique optimising toolbar to key stakeholders with lived experience of neurodiversity at The Donaldson Trust. Applicants can personalise the interview set up ahead of their interview by adjusting the: 🎨Colour/contrast, 🔡Font 📹video settings ⌛️Progress visualisation Our results speak to the impact of a truly inclusive design: • 92% of neurodivergent volunteers felt the optimisations made a positive difference. • 70% felt interview outcomes were fairer and move objective • 69% reported feeling less stressed during the interview process. These results underscore the importance of #PsychologicalSafety and #UniversalDesign in creating equitable experiences. By fostering an environment where applicants feel #safe, #understood, and #valued, we empower them to bring their best selves forward. This isn’t just about technology—it’s about reshaping candidate selection practices to level the playing field with empathy and fairness at the core. By prioritising #accessibility, we at Sammi Select set a new standard that benefits all, ensuring a fairer, more inclusive future for talent selection. #PsychologicalSafety #UniversalDesign #EquityInHiring #Neurodiversity Vicki Perry Image description: 3 images showing football in the net, Donaldson Trust logo and our toolbar

If disclosing personal information could hurt your chance of landing a job, would you do it? For at least 20% of our population this struggle is real. Research shows most neurodivergent individuals prefer not to disclose in return for the support they need – even though it is their right, protected by the law. Why? 🙄 Because they fear judgement. Level the playing field by removing job #interview #bias has always been at the heart of our mission at Sammi Select and our multiple mini interview technology. Funded by Innovate UK we have now gone one step further… The #neurodivergent community is incredibly diverse. Once you’ve met one neurodivergent individual, you’ve met one neurodivergent individual. So how do we, through our tech, cater for individual job interview support needs … especially if applicants don’t disclose. That’s the question I set out to answer; its been a thought provoking journey over the last 12 months! The findings have been eye-opening and Im excited to share insights with you in my next few posts, ahead of launching the full research article. Without support, neurodivergent individuals either withdraw, are unsuccessful, or ‘mask’ their way through job interviews, with significant mental health costs. With data telling us that 80% of neurodivergent people are underemployed and only 22% of autistic people are in employment …. It doesn’t have to be this way! I invite employers to: ✅Interview differently ✅Enable all applicants be their best selves at interview ✅Find the right person for the job regardless of differences More coming soon. Interested to learn more now? I’d love to chat, send me a DM Grateful thanks to all who made this research possible including The Donaldson Trust, University of Surrey, Innovate UK Women in Innovation Award. At graduation 10 years ago, I was convinced I would be 'found out' and not awarded my PhD. #Impostersyndrome or ‘growth moments’ to quote @Steve Bartlett… can you relate? Yesterday was graduation day at the University of Surrey, which brought me back to that time when I believed my thesis (or I) might not be good enough and the examiners had made a big mistake. 10 years later as female founder of a tech4good startup, #impostersyndrome is still a thing. According to Deloitte, imposter syndrome affects over 70% people in their lives. But we know that 1 in 7 of us are #neurodivergent. Did you know that the neurodivergent community are even more prone to imposter syndrome due to their unique sensitivities and social needs. What can any of us do to help? Start by enabling neurodivergent individuals through: ✅Normalising differences, ✅Encouraging openness ✅Building #psychologicalsafety ✅Supporting a 360degree approach to inclusion which centres the individual And reframe imposter syndrome as ‘growth moments’ with positive affirmations, enabling us to thrive in safe spaces to be the best version of ourselves. #equity #diversity #inclusion Image description: graduation photographs in academic red/blue robes and interior of Guildford Cathedral

Sometimes you just have to get stuck in … I was going to add more but that sums up my birthday morning today doing the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) 5k @Pretty Muddy… And it applies to all of us Founders … 💪Get stuck in 🏃Keep going 🧘Stay focused on the end goal 😊You never know how it’s going to turn out! We all completed it, didn’t dodge any of the obstacles, it was brilliant fun and we raised a great amount for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). And like a typical Founder, I’d do it all over again! 🤣Thanks girls for the moral support and laughs.
