Great news – Scarf is part of the newly renewed CARES contract! The Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) is a Scottish Government-funded programme that helps communities, charities, and organisations develop renewable energy projects. It provides funding, expert advice, and hands-on support to help local groups take control of their energy future – whether through community-owned wind, solar, or heating initiatives. As part of the CARES consortium – alongside Energy Saving Trust, Changeworks, and Energy Agency – we've helped deliver a huge £67 million in funding and supported over 1,200 organisations. Now, with the contract extended for another four years, we’re excited to help even more communities cut costs, generate their own energy, and move towards net zero. More funding announced that we get to help deliver through our role in the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES). This is going to make a real difference across Scotland and we're excited to be part of it.
As part of the first major project for Great British Energy, Scotland will receive nearly £5 million in funding to build community and renewable energy projects. The Scottish Government will be delivering this funding through the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme, to further support clean energy projects and shared ownership initiatives for communities across Scotland. Great to attend the Scottish Energy Futures Conference last week and hear about the exciting developments shaping the North East’s renewable energy landscape. 🔹 The Crown Estate delivered an interesting presentation on the future of offshore wind, highlighting the scale of upcoming projects and the opportunities they bring. 🔹 Lots of encouraging discussions on supply chain development and the broader economic impact – ensuring the transition to renewables benefits businesses and communities across the region. As an Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) member, Scarf was proud to showcase the community-driven energy-saving and decarbonisation initiatives already making a difference at ground level. James Buchan, Project Manager at Scarf, summed it up well: "Scarf was pleased to be at the Scottish Future Energy Conference as part of AREG, highlighting the many local initiatives driving energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and renewables in the North East. We're proud to contribute to Scotland’s future energy landscape and support a Just Transition." Thanks for having us. Looking forward to continuing the conversation and helping shape a fair, sustainable energy future for Scotland.

Since autumn 2023, Scarf has facilitated over £15 million in private sector funding through the ECO 4-FLEX scheme. The result? ✅ 800+ homes now benefit from fully funded insulation and renewable technology. ✅ 2,500+ energy efficiency measures implemented. ✅ £1.3M in annual fuel bill savings—directly easing cost-of-living pressures. ✅ 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ reduced—a real step towards net zero. This is what impact looks like when funding meets action. But thousands more households still need support. If you’re a local authority, housing provider, or organisation looking to support your community, let’s talk.
