Reflecting on my week so far at Mipim in Cannes, I am reminded of the importance of face-to-face connections. In a world where technology allows us to connect with anyone, anywhere, I believe that the most meaningful partnerships are forged through genuine human interactions.   At the heart of our work is the purpose of reimagining places where people can thrive. We strive for partnerships that are built on shared values and a commitment to making a positive impact in our communities. Meeting like-minded individuals at Mipim has reinforced my belief that these connections are essential for driving change.   While we embrace the convenience of digital tools, let’s not forget the power of a handshake, a smile, and the energy that comes from being present with one another. This week, SES Engineering Services has been proud to celebrate both International Women’s Day and National Careers Week with a range of initiatives focused on supporting, developing, and championing women in our industry.   Women remain underrepresented in construction, however we are committed to playing our part in driving change. That means creating real opportunities for career development, mentorship, and support at all levels.   Throughout the week, we’ve been actively involved in:   ✔️ Engaging with Future Talent – Our social value, site and central teams have been working with schools to deliver career advice and mock interviews, helping to inspire the next generation of women in the industry. ✔️ Hosting a Women’s Breakfast Event – Our Regional MD for SES South, Darren Wilson, alongside Dr Carol Massay, led an open discussion on career progression, networking, and breaking down barriers for women in the region. ✔️ Supporting Women in Leadership – Our Head of Communications & Marketing, Leanne Chatt is attending today’s ‘Women in Leadership’ conference alongside Dr Carol Massay hosted by Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce, with conversations focused on career growth, workplace equality, and resilience in leadership. ✔️ Celebrating Across Our Offices – Teams across the country have marked the occasion with events including coffee & cake mornings, networking sessions, and even a golf putting challenge!   These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to creating an industry where women can thrive. I am feeling so proud! Along with 12 AMAZING female Wates colleagues, I've spent the morning at Woldgate School where Wates Group and SES Engineering Services are currently building a brand new school. We delivered a session with all 100 year 11 girls, to demonstrate the wide variety of job roles in construction and make sure they know that there is every reason for them to see the built environment as a potential career option. The perfect way to celebrate #IWD2025. Our amazing volunteers covered eight different job roles, from Bid Writer to Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and Planner. They are all fantastic role models for young women considering future options. We did lots of fun activities with students listening well and asking lots of great questions. Feedback from volunteers, teachers and students was brilliant and I am buzzing that we have had such a fun and productive morning. In celebration of International Women’s Day tomorrow and Women in Construction Week this week, I hosted a breakfast event for the women of SES South to have an open conversation about careers, challenges, and opportunities in our industry. Hosted alongside Dr Carol Massay, a champion for diversity in construction and a valued partner of ours at SES Engineering Services, we discussed mentoring, the power of networking, and how we can better support women in the sector.   Women are still a minority in construction, and while progress is happening, there’s more to do. Events like this are just one step, and I look forward to progressing our commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive business and industry for all. #IWD2025

Working with the right partners is essential to creating thriving places, which is why building strong and successful relationships with our supply chain is so important to me and the team at SES Engineering Services.   This week I hosted some of our valued partners from London and the South for breakfast, a great opportunity for both sides to share insights and explore how we can continue working together effectively to support our current and future pipeline.   Thanks to everyone who attended, it's always a pleasure to connect with those who play such a successful part in delivering our projects.
