🍔 Care Experienced Summer BBQ 🔥 Project coaches Gemma and Chelsea had a blast at yesterday's Summer BBQ, hosted by the wonderful Sheffield Leaving Care Service 😍 Amidst the games, food, and raffles, this was a great way to catch up with young people who've been supported by our Ambition project 👷♀️ 📝 Whether it's training, employment, or education, our Ambition project helps young people find the path that's right for them. From interview preparation to CV writing workshops, our project coaches provide the support and skills that young people need to progress on their journey. A lovely bonus to the day was having two care experienced young people join us later on for our Youth Run Club! Though by their own admission, the burgers weren't great pre-run fuel... #CareExperience #CareLeavers #CommunityEvents

🌸 Creativity shared amongst colleagues 🌸 SF Mental Health Hub delivered a fantastic taster session to colleagues over lunch today, showcasing the resources and activities they've developed for group delivery out in community venues and schools. Over three sessions, the MHH team work with groups of young people to: 🙆♀️ Increase awareness and psychoeducation around mental health 🧘♂️ Provide coping strategies for managing mental wellbeing  👬 Empower young people to access community support Sessions are tailored to meet each group's needs, recognising that one size doesn't fit all. By piloting the sessions with Grow, we've been able to test and tweak the activities, taking on board feedback from young people and other professionals. Interested in collaborating with the MHH? If you want to find out about young people's experiences of mental health, you need to ask them. That's what BBC Look North did when they came to visit us recently. Hannah Gray sat down with a group of young people at Star House to ask them about their experiences of mental health waiting lists, and what sort of support they'd like to have available to them. With a new Government committing to increasing the number of mental health workers across the country, we hope to see services like Door43 and the Mental Health Hub sustainably funded so that we can continue providing early-intervention support to those who need it. Broadcast on 14th August at 1.30pm and 6.30pm. Available to watch on iPlayer for the next 24 hours: https://lnkd.in/ecMuGCGx #YouthVoice #MentalHealth #Media #BBC

Sheffield Futures unequivocally condemns the racist actions of the far-right that have taken place in Sheffield and across the country in recent days. We exist to support young people. Young people deserve to feel safe and cared for, regardless of their race or religion. Families should not be living in fear for the safety of their children. It is unacceptable that young people of colour may not feel able to come into the city centre to access support from us and other essential organisations. Many of those targeted by the attacks came to Sheffield seeking sanctuary, having fled violence and persecution. This should be a wake-up call to our political leaders that we need to reprioritise our communities as places of hope, humanity, diversity and inclusivity. False news and dehumanising language have played a dangerous role in the UK for far too long. Alongside and with Sheffield’s VCS, we are in ongoing discussions about what coordinated actions we can take as a community to show our practical solidarity, love and unity. In the meantime, we remain open and here for all young people. This weekend's events do not represent the majority of us. Guidance and support 👇 HOPE not hate is a useful source of information, education and guidance about ongoing events and how to act in solidarity against hate. Sheffield City of Sanctuary exists to build a safe and welcoming city for those seeking sanctuary. Experiencing racism and witnessing traumatic events can negatively impact your mental health. If you have young people in your lives who are concerned or struggling, we're here for them. Speak to us about counselling or wellbeing support. If you have any concerns about safety getting to Star House, please speak to a member of our team.

🎨 Our Counselling Summer Programme is now live on our website! 🎭 Young people can choose between art therapy taster sessions, mask making, storytelling and more (to be announced). Why art therapy? 🤔 Creative activities used in therapeutic settings can encourage young people to express themselves beyond words. The calming nature of art can help to make therapy feel less daunting. Each session is aimed at a particular age group and will be led by a qualified counsellor. Group sizes will be kept small and we encourage young people to register their interest through our website. Please share with your networks! https://lnkd.in/eYNwBQ9z #ArtTherapy #SummerProgramme #MentalHealth

☕ Networking in the Sheffield Youth Space ☕ We're so pleased with the growing success of Tea with Door 43, an informal networking opportunity for professionals working with young people in Sheffield. JOIN THE HYPE and come along to the next one ⬇ 📅 When: Tuesday 25th June ⌚ Duration: 9am-9.45am 🏢 Where: Star House, 43 Division Street, S1 4GE Chat with our experienced delivery staff about what's happening across the sector, learn about upcoming events and opportunities, and share ideas and best practice. ☕ We know most people can't engage in meaningful conversation before their morning coffee. Don't fret, caffeine and pastries are always on hand to start your morning right. 🥐 Still not convinced? Here's some of the incredible feedback we've had so far ⤵  “It was a great way for practitioners from different disciplines to learn from each and learn about how better to support young people.”  “The event was a great opportunity to network and discuss work/projects with other organisations working with young people. It gave insight into things happening in the city that we have since been able to recommend to clients.”
