Our top picks from this year’s Surface Design Show: This year’s Surface Design Show was brimming with innovative and sustainable materials, but a few exhibitors truly stood out to our team. These favourites, in our view, exemplify the future of design—where creativity and sustainability go hand in hand. One of our standout exhibitors, KAVA Surfaces, impressed us with their eco-friendly approach to surface design. Their sustainable surfaces, crafted from coffee grounds and other organic waste, offer a unique blend of sustainability and style. By partnering with local businesses to source waste materials, they create bio-binder-infused surfaces perfect for wall panelling, joinery, and furniture. Wonderwall Studios showcased their beautifully crafted wooden wall panels made entirely from salvaged timber. Each panel tells a story, bringing character and warmth to any space while promoting responsible material use. We were captivated by Walls of Eden's artisan 3D-formed wall tiles, which combine sustainable materials with natural elements. Infused with real moss and plants, these tiles create an eco-conscious aesthetic while enhancing indoor air quality—a perfect fusion of design and nature. ARCQITONE's exhibit was a source of true inspiration. Their mineral-based decorative panels feature intricate designs with minimal resin usage, ensuring both durability and sustainability. With enhanced flame-retardant properties, these panels are as practical as they are visually striking.

Bethany Prince - Senior Associate at SHH Architecture & Interiors shares her insights and interior design trend for 2025. “Interior design continues to evolve, embracing thoughtful aesthetics sustainability and wellness. One of the key trends this year will be layering with different textures and finishes, making materiality more indulgent. This approach creates depth and warmth by enhancing the tactile quality of interiors. Colour trends lean towards warmth and richness. Look out for tones like mulberry reds and mocha-inspired hues. Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse, epitomises this movement—its inherently rich and sensory quality makes it a standout choice. Artwork placement remains a key component in design, adding character and individuality to homes. Carefully curated pieces bring life and personality to any space. Sculptural lighting will take centre stage, creating focal points that enhance the mood and ambiance of a room. These pieces go beyond utility, becoming integral to the overall design. Curves continue to inspire in both furniture and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) design, lending softness and a timeless quality. Designing with sustainability in mind will remain at the forefront. Expect to see a surge in natural finishes, with an emphasis on materials that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible. The demand for comfort and wellness-focused design is here to stay. Home automation continues to grow, allowing for seamless, connected living. Smart homes, with integrated systems for lighting, sound, and temperature, reflect the future of convenience and functionality. Spaces like home offices, meditation corners, and gyms are becoming integral to modern homes as they reflect the need for balance and comfort in everyday life. Each city boasts a unique history and architectural identity, yet certain foundational elements remain consistent on both sides of the Atlantic. At its heart, interior design should always align with personal tastes and preferences, creating spaces that resonate with individuality and timeless style.” #interiordesigntrends #sustainabilityindesign #wellnessdesign #textureandmateriality #interiordesign2025 #pantonecoloroftheyear #mochamousse #sculpturallighting #designforcomfort
