A new product, designed to help medical professionals detect and diagnose Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has been launched today at the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) Conference in Edinburgh. FGM Care Aware, manufactured by CliniSim, a brand of Simulaids Ltd, has been developed with a leading British Medical School to aid training and raise awareness of a practice which affects over 200 million people worldwide. Our government estimates around 60,000 girls under 15 in the UK are at risk. FGM Care Aware is a lifelike reproduction of the female pubic area, available in several models representing the World Health Organization's different classifications of FGM. Whereas education has so far relied on class teaching with diagrams and pictures, this product offers a far more realistic training model. Ryan Young, Managing Director of Simulaids, said: “Female Genital Mutilation is a hidden problem which affects millions around the world, and many thousands in the UK. When we heard about the lack of suitable equipment to help identification, we wanted to do whatever we could to help medical staff detect, diagnose and treat it. Excited to be welcoming people to our stand at the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) Conference in Edinburgh this morning. Some innovative new products from partners including Nasco Healthcare, MEDICAL-X and SKILLQUBE GmbH who are exhibiting on our stall, and a sneaky peek of a new product we've developed ourselves which we'll be launching later today!

A hyper-real manikin which blinks and sweats, and a brand new virtual reality headset, are just two of the new products we're showcasing at the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) conference next week. ADAM-X, for example, is a new high-fidelity manikin from Dutch manufacturer MEDICAL-X, which represents a faithful reproduction of a man’s anatomy and physiology. The manikin is built with distinctive unique human characteristics, such as skin which perspires, eyes which blink like a human’s, and pupils which react to light and touch. MVR-Nursing, on the other hand, is completely different. A Virtual Simulator with a headset like an Oculus, the product replicates clinical scenarios for medical training through virtual reality, and comes direct from Nasco Healthcare in the USA. Simulaids are exhibiting on Monday and Tuesday at #ASPiH2024 alongside representatives from Nasco Healthcare MEDICAL-X and SKILLQUBE GmbH, with products on show from other manufacturers including BT Inc, SimulationCollective and ENF KOREA Co.Ltd. A wide range of manikins and skills trainers will be available to try out, in some cases alongside their designers and manufacturers, so the conference is an ideal opportunity to get hands-on with some of the most innovative simulation products in the world. Simulaids also have surprise to unveil too – a cutting-edge new product developed by our own brand CliniSim, which we will be launching at the conference. Cutting edge AI manikins from Simulaids are proving a huge hit in the new T Levels course in Health, helping to teach clinical skills and even interacting with students. ALEX, the AI Patient Communication Simulator, is proving especially popular, chatting with students as a real patient would, and can even be programmed to be challenging or bad-tempered. Darlington College welcomed its first cohort of T Level Health students in September, and they’ve had a wonderful time getting to know their new simulation suite, supplied by Simulaids. Star of the show ALEX enables training in practical clinical skills, but also helps students hone their person-centred care protocols, acting as a patient in a simulated GP consultation. But, as pupils have found out, ALEX is not always the model patient. One student said: “The AI manikins are incredible, the way they interact with us is amazing, though they can be a bit rude. The course is really practical, which helps you understand what you want to do.
