  • Adam and Joanna managed to raise a whopping £915 for the SSPCA by both running 63 miles in August!! It was a hard challenge for them, but they both agree that it felt great to support a fantastic cause and it was one of the best things they have done for themselves both physically and mentally. Thank you to all who donated and well done to our runners

  • This is Oskar, he is a 13 year old Persian who his owner adopted from the charity Catflap in 2019. His owner volunteers at the charity and thought it was fate he was there when she started. He loves with another Persian Buddy (pictured) who is also a Catflap cat. Here are his owners words about his recent visit to our Out of Hours Service. "Oskar has always been a healthy boy, until he was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy in February 2024 which deteriorated in July, hence his visit to SAH. Sarah and the team were wonderful with him, and kept us up to date with Oskar’s condition and progress. He’s still going strong!"

  • This is Reggie, a two year old poodle cross. He was seen by our Soft Tissue and Ophthalmology departments for investigation and treatment of exophthalmos (protrusion of the eye out with the socket) of his left eye. After a course of treatment, he is now back to his handsome self. His owner has taken time to share Reggie's story with us below. "Reggie started to appear unwell and his 3rd eye lid started to show, within 12 hours his eye was swollen and he was unable to close his eyelid, we took him to our own Vets who initially gave him sedation and a procedure to try and figure out what was happening. We got a call an hour later to say we needed to take him straight to the small animal hospital where a soft tissue specialist and ophthalmology specialist would be waiting to see Reggie. We were terrified and were told there was a possibility of Reggie losing his eye! When we arrived at the SAH we were seen straight away by an amazing Vet (the soft tissue specialist) who took time to examine Reggie and give a full explanation of what could be going on, reassured us that it would be unlikely Reggie would lose his eye which along with ensuring we had a good understanding of what was going on meant we knew he would be in good hands. Reggie was then taken for further sedation/tests and CT Scans followed by 3 nights stay in the ICU SAH due to the intense eye treatments he needed from the nurses. We were kept up to date twice a day during his stay with full and clear explanation of what was happening to Reggie. I can’t thank the vets and nurses enough for their care of our boy. He has exceeded expectations in his recovery and is back to his usual self."

  • Coco was referred to our Orthopaedic Department in June and had surgery to fix her cruciate ligament. She is recovering well, and her owner was happy to share her story below. "Coco is our eleven year old Shih tzu. She came to us as six week old puppy and has been an extremely important (and very bossy!) member of our family ever since. Coco rules the household! Including our other dog, Finn the three year old Border Collie and our seven year old cat Alfie. Coco loves to walk, whether it’s climbing Munros or running on a beach, she is a very active and fit wee dog. That’s why when she started limping a few months ago it was extremely concerning for us. After a visit to our local vet it was suggested that Coco had arthritis in her back right leg and consequently a cruciate ligament problem. It didn’t take much family discussion to conclude that a referral to the experts in the Orthopaedic department of Glasgow University Vet School was the best way forward and we asked our vet to do this for us. Our experience was one of complete professional efficiency from start to finish! From the reception staff, to the nurses, to the vet students, to the orthopaedic surgeon himself, we found everyone to be polite, approachable and very informative. Amazing all round! Coco had a TPLO operation and only this week had her six week check and X-rays. All is great and healing well. We’ve still a way to go but she is finally getting small walks again and building her strength. We are so, so grateful to the staff of GUVS Small Animal Hospital and thanks to them, we can now hopefully look forward to as many happy active years as possible with our girl."
