The Smart Alternative.
About us
At SMR (UK) we specialise in creating cheaper, greener and SMaRter Alternatives to Type 1 and other traditional methods. SMR is a Proprietary Binder that when mixed with dug waste/spoil it utilises the free moisture present in the atmosphere to start a re-action which results in a high quality and strong structural material, three times greater than traditional methods and will create significant savings across the board. There are 3 solutions for any application; SMR Batch-Mix for large excavations and trenches (SMR HUB SITES)All SMR Batch-Mix products are produced to the WRAP Quality Protocol and meet or exceed the relevant SROH (HAUC) or SHW Vol 1 (800 ,600 & 500 series) specifications. SMR HandMix - for small Excavations it is the ultimate solution in small excavation reinstatements. Simply mix SMR with the spoil during excavating and see it transform into a high quality sub-base replacement within minutes. No tipping charges, no imported material costs and no grab lorry movements - just increased efficiency and massive cost savings. In-Situ/Ex-situ for civils work - whether you are looking to lock in contaminants on site to enable safe material re-use whilst increasing structural performance, or merely wish to stabilise material in-situ for Piling Mats, Car Park Bases, Oversites or roadway construction, SMR can save you time and money as well as enhancing your environmental performance. SMR technical personnel assist in bespoke binder design for the clients requirements, assist in ensuring compliance with the latest environmental legislation, Site Waste Management plans and in-situ testing.

The time has come to give back. Our founder, Clive Holloway, received exceptional care at @Ty Olwen during his battle with MS. Now, we’re raising funds to help them continue providing the same compassion and support that they gave to Clive. ♻️Where SMR Fits into the Circular Economy🌍 Thank you CEIC Wales for giving us a great visual to explain the circular economy and how it differs from the traditional linear model. We thought this would be a great chance to explain how SMR fits into this model, specifically in the context of reinstatement projects. In traditional reinstatement projects, we see a linear economy in action, where 100% of excavated sub-base waste is sent to landfill, and new Type 1 material is imported. This results in: ➡ Depletion of valuable landfill space ➡ Increased demand for natural resources ➡ Unnecessary transportation emissions from exporting waste and importing new material While Type 1 recycling facilities are moving us towards a recycling economy by recovering excavated material; ➡ Only up to 40% of material can be recovered ➡ Only good material such as crushed and recycled curbs are currently being recovered ➡ Therefore, a minimum of 60% of waste is still being sent to landfill That’s where SMR comes in, taking things a step further to fully embrace the circular economy. 🌱 With SMR, up to 100% of excavated material can be re-used, creating a superior backfill product that: 🔄 Diverts waste from landfill 🌿 Eliminates the need for importing natural resources 🚛 Reduces CO2 emissions from the transportation of materials By adopting SMR, we’re closing the loop on waste, supporting the environment, and creating more sustainable reinstatement practices. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SMR #WasteReduction #Innovation #GreenSolutions #CEIC #RecyclingEconomy
Circular Economy 🔄 = Zero Waste 🚮 It’s Zero Waste Week, which means it’s time to think about the way we use everyday materials. The traditional ‘take, make, waste’ model of consumption only adds to landfills and squanders valuable resources, so we need a more circular approach. In the circular economy products are made to be reused at their highest possible value and waste is designed out of the system from the get-go (either by eliminating it or treating it as a resource for something else) , so a circular economy = zero waste. Businesses can learn more about the circular economy and how to embed these principles in their products and processes at CEIC’s fully-funded programme starting later this month.
