📢 Have you read the latest copy of the Institute of Water Magazine Autumn 2024 Edition? 📰 If you haven’t yet, now’s the perfect time! This edition is packed with crucial industry updates, but one standout feature you won’t want to miss is on page 52. Our Chief Executive, Gabrielle Mandell, delivers a thought-provoking article titled "The Untapped Potential in Water" – a must-read that links directly to our front cover story. 🗣In the article, Gaby explores the water sector’s skills shortage and highlights the diverse range of opportunities the industry offers. She opens with an eye-catching observation: “When people think about working in the water sector, they may picture someone in a hard hat and high vis jacket at a treatment works or asset management site. Google 'water sector worker' and that's what you get - pages and pages of such images. But our industry is far more diverse, offering an assortment of roles that many won't know about or have not considered. Who knew the water sector needed wedding planners? Anglian Water Services does. On the shoreline of Rutland Water sits Normanton Church, pictured on the front cover, which highlights perfectly the variety of opportunities in our sector. This fun fact underscores a serious challenge: recruiting and retaining people” Explore this insightful article and discover IWater's role in addressing the skills gap below. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eXYiUE2M #IWaterMagazine

It's been a busy month of Institute of Water events, starting off with a great evening at the National President's Dinner and Awards in Lincoln! Thanks so much to R2M Ltd for the invite to a fantastic event to celebrate the achievements of members, volunteers and others across the water industry 🌊 Next up was a visit to the National Coal Mining Museum for our Northern Area Environment Seminar 🌍🌿 Jonathon Banks and Victoria Ross did an amazing job organising the day! We heard from some inspiring speakers who shared their knowledge and innovative approaches to tackle the environmental challenges we face as a sector. It was lovely to get to host the morning session and panel discussion, where we explored how we could work together to face into some of these challenges, and the tour of the mine was a great way to end the day ⛏️💧 Finally, last week's Spirit of Water event in Manchester was a great evening with an interesting distillery tour and the return of the Northern Area pub quiz! Matthew Harris and Neil Hancox pulled off a great technical-social event and everyone had a brilliant time 🍸 My team may have came last in the quiz, but we had fun and took home a souvenir last place trophy 💩🏆 We still have a few Northern Area events coming up before the end of the year 🌟 Take a look and hope to see you at an event soon! https://lnkd.in/gemAsKUC
