🎙 How are regulatory bodies tackling inequalities for people who need the services they regulate? What approaches are being taken, and what works? We explore these questions in the latest episode of our podcast Insight for Impact with Lucy Wilkinson from Care Quality Commission, Max Edelstyn from the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Naomi Nicholson representing the Institute of Regulation, and SQW’s Lauren Roberts and Jane Meagher. In this episode, we discuss some of the key learnings from our recent rapid evidence review for #CQC on the approaches taken by regulators to tackle inequalities for people who need services, including in other sectors and countries. 💡 Since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, UK productivity growth continues to lag behind other major advanced economies, such as the US, Germany and France. In 2017, Be the Business was established to improve the productivity of the UK’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through programmes to help improve their management, leadership and digital capabilities. In celebration of National Mentoring Day this Sunday 27 October, we want to highlight our evaluation of the Mentoring for Growth and Rapid Response Mentoring Programmes delivered by Be the Business. These programmes enable senior people from top-tier multinational firms to mentor SME leaders. As a result of this support, mentees (SMEs) report the following benefits: - Improved knowledge, skills and confidence - Adoption of new management and leadership practices - Improved productivity in some cases. You can read more about the impacts of Be the Business mentoring programmes, including the positive outcomes on mentors themselves, in our full evaluation report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eugVFkrd Look out for our new blog post ✍ *coming soon* to find out more about our work in evaluating business mentoring programmes. #mentoring #businesssupport #productivity #UKproductivity #BeTheBusiness #productivityproblem #SMEs National Mentoring Day

🌳 Over the last few weeks, SQW colleagues across the UK have been busy using our volunteering days to support a range of local charities: - Our Edinburgh colleagues volunteered with Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust at Figgate Park, helping with a variety of tasks including tree maintenance, weeding, creating habitat piles for wildlife, and litter picking. - Our London colleagues volunteered at Mudchute Park and Farm in East London. Mudchute is a community charity with a working farm, and the team spent their day helping with a range of tasks including cleaning out the animals’ pens, relaying the hay, putting down feed for the animals, and hedge maintenance. - Our Stockport colleagues visited Tatton Park for a crisp Autumnal walk in aid of our friends at the Arc - Arts for Recovery in the Community, an arts and mental health charity based in Stockport. A big thanks to everyone involved in arranging and facilitating these activities!

📢 With UK Youth, we are researching youth worker interactions with agencies and organisations that support young people. Commissioned by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport this research will help to design future policy and programmes and may offer guides to good practice and better outcomes. Through qualitative case studies and an online survey, the research will explore: - What interactions take place between agencies and why? - What are the benefits of these interactions – and the implications of not interacting? - What form do interactions take - how formal or informal are they? - What are the barriers to greater interaction? - What lessons can be learned about better multi-agency interactions? UK Youth are convening a cross-sector advisory group of representatives from youth work, social work, health, education and the criminal justice system, as well as young people themselves, to provide expert advice throughout the study. If you’d like to talk to us about this research, please contact Jo Hutchinson. Visit our website to find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/emdd-2mB
