St Clare Hospice is here to make sure they don't face it alone 💙 This February, we're inviting unpaid carers and paid care staff to learn more about providing high-quality compassionate care for local people living with advanced dementia 🧠 We'll teach you how to use everyday items and other resources to spark the senses and improve wellbeing, helping people with advanced dementia stay connected to those around them. Our free 'Introduction to Namaste Care' workshop takes place on Tuesday 11th February (2pm – 4pm) on Zoom. Book your place via: https://bit.ly/3CDhm21

  • This International Day of Education we want to share Bie's St Clare story 📖 At St Clare, we pride ourselves on sharing knowledge and skills with our health and social care colleagues, including those in training! Last year, Bie joined St Clare Hospice's therapy team on a 6-week placement as part of her studies at university 🎓 "I chose to train in occupational therapy because I enjoy caring for others, making a positive impact, and being a part of their journey toward independence and improved quality of life. Working holistically with individuals and addressing the physical, emotional, and social aspects of their well-being deeply resonates with me," Bie shared. When asked about any standout moments during her time at St Clare, Bie said: "One standout moment was observing a patient, who has been experiencing pain and anxiety, visibly relax during a relaxation session. "Their expression of gratitude and the immediate positive impact of the therapy session highlighted the profound difference small interventions can make in someone's life." 💙 Work in the #Healthcare or #SocialCare sector and wants to learn more about Hospice care? • 🌟 Could you offer comfort and connection to someone with dementia? 💜 📈 Referrals to our Dementia Support Service are increasing – and we need more volunteers 🙋♀️🙋♂️ to help us provide our free, personalised support to families navigating the challenges of living with the condition. People like Diane, who started volunteering with us after caring for her mum, who has dementia. Diane now visits two people at home 🏠 once a week to deliver meaningful, sensory activities designed to enhance their quality of life. ✨ Diane’s sessions engage the senses through sound, touch, smell, taste, and sight, helping people stay connected 💞 by focusing on their emotional and physical needs. Activities may include: 💆♀️ Gentle hand massages 🎵 Listening to their favorite music 📖 Reading cherished books ✨ Using resources to spark memories Diane shared: “It’s amazing to see someone’s personality unfold and to learn their preferences for certain sounds, tastes, and touches. Finding what makes someone laugh or shed an emotional tear is an honor to share. "I feel lucky to do this role. Supporting someone to be themselves and to feel enjoyment is so rewarding. I always feel more whole, refreshed, and calmer afterwards – and hopefully, they feel the same way.” 🌟 Interested in becoming a Dementia Support Volunteer? Find out more here: https://bit.ly/40upafP ❤️ We'd love to hear from you!
