Statera Energy has submitted a planning application for the UK’s first utility scale green hydrogen project. Located in Aberdeenshire, Kintore Hydrogen could be the largest project of its kind in Europe and once constructed will help balance a renewables-led power system by using surplus renewable energy to produce green hydrogen. Statera Energy’s CEO Tom Vernon talked to Emma Powell, Energy Editor at The Times, and outlined how Kintore Hydrogen could play an essential role in decarbonising the UK's carbon intensive sectors and help to alleviate the bottleneck in the energy transmission system along the Scotland-England border. At the end of April, a peloton of Statera employees successfully completed the 106km Etape Loch Ness. Starting and finishing in Inverness, the cycle included 900m of ascent, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Highlands, and passing by the site of our Loch Kemp Pumped Storage Project. With the benefit of Statera match funding, we raised over £10,000 for local charity Day1, which supports vulnerable young people in the Highlands through coaching and training programmes. The funds raised will help to enable Day1’s ambition of electrifying the Inverness Kart Raceway where it trains students in mechanical and automotive skills. Statera is invested in this area for the long term and proud to support Day1's great work - thank you to everyone who donated! Statera Energy is pleased to announce a planning application submission for a 500MW battery storage facility which will help meet peak demand in the local power network around Culham Campus and make a significant contribution to the UK’s Grid stability and energy security. Development Director Oliver Troup commented: "Aside from the national benefit short duration storage provides in a flexible grid system, Statera’s Culham BESS will support the expansion of Culham Campus, already home to 45 businesses and a leading centre for nuclear fusion. Finding sites that work for this type of scheme is very challenging. It’s even harder to find a site that directly benefits such a unique science and technology park."
