About us
We imagine a world where all lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LGBTQ+) people are free to be themselves. Stonewall was founded in 1989 by a small group of people who wanted to break down barriers to equality. Stonewall continues to campaign and lobby government to change laws to ensure everyone, everywhere, is free to be themselves. Stonewall works in partnership with a growing network of more than 700 organisations to help create real change for the better. It campaigns to eliminate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in communities, and empowers LGBT people and their allies to be role models wherever they live, work, shop, socialise or pray. 💬 "My partner and I don’t feel that we can be as free as our heterosexual friends," says Emma. It’s #HateCrimeAwarenessWeek, and in 2024, anti-LGBTQ+ hate is still affecting the community. ❤️ We all deserve to feel safe living our daily lives and to be ourselves free from fear. That's why we're campaigning for the Government to make anti-LGBTQ+ hate crime an aggravated offence and for a national action plan to counter rising hate crimes. Ask you MP to stand hand in hand against the hate ▶️ https://bit.ly/3XuC4rr.
