Celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Sylvia Rivera (1951-2002) on her birthday! 🎉 Best known as a leader of the monumental Stonewall Riots in New York City, Sylvia was also a founding member of both the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance. Along with Marsha P. Johnson, she co-founded STAR, a group dedicated to helping homeless trans youth. STAR was not only one of the first shelters for trans youth but also one of the first political organizations for transgender rights in the world. . . . Image description: Illustration of Sylvia Rivera with the name displayed above and the GLSEN.org logo below. The background is a solid pale green color.
