Some of our StreamBank colleagues have reflected on the systemic barriers and biases women face, to mark International Women's Day 2025. Alison Jones, service delivery manager at StreamBank, said the flexible working approach enabled her to thrive professionally without compromising her role as a mother, removing the “guilt of choosing between career and family”. With International Women’s Day 2025 on 8th March calling for accelerated action to address the systemic barriers and biases for women, B&C invited the industry to reflect on gender diversity progress and share the initiatives they have implemented over the past 12 months. Tiba Raja, executive director at Market Financial Solutions, said: “Historically, financial services – especially specialist lending – have been a male-dominated industry, with women particularly underrepresented in leadership roles." Alex Upton, managing director of specialist mortgages and bridging at Hampshire Trust Bank (HTB), said HTB were “strengthening mentorship and sponsorship”, not just by offering guidance, but actively championing female talent into senior roles. Assetz Capital COO Irene Thomas and change manager Zoë Langer agreed that career progression remained an obstacle for women and highlighted the importance of female and male mentors in the industry to foster diversity. Alison Jones, service delivery manager at StreamBank, said this flexible working approach enabled her to thrive professionally without compromising her role as a mother, removing the “guilt of choosing between career and family”. Clare Jupp, group CPO at Brightstar Financial, explained that while there were certain situations that WFH can prove very beneficial, particularly for individuals taking care of family members, she ultimately feels that WFH “creates isolation” and “absence impacts career progression”. Kate Cowan, CFO at Hope Capital, also identified that “offering guidance, advice and helping woman navigate challenges, are all key to career advancement.” Read the full story at B&C: https://lnkd.in/etD9C7UR
