The news that Defra has brought the 2024 SFI offer to a close because it has allocated all of its budget has left the farming industry in shock. While rumours had been circulating that some changes might be on the way, few were anticipating the immediate closure of the scheme with no warning. Defra has said that it will announce details of a reformed version of the scheme once it knows the outcome of the Spending Review, which is expected to conclude in the first half of June. Please get in touch with one of our advisors if you have further questions. #SFI #Farming

The 2025 LEAF Conference, hosted last week at our HQ in London, brought respected speakers from across the globe together to share their perspectives on the topic of climate change adaptation in relation to farming systems. They explored how a combination of new technology, innovative management practices and the financial services sector might be used to help farmers through the required transition. Jonathan Armitage, Head of Farming and Natural Capital at Strutt & Parker, was one of the panellists and said: “I think we recognise that there is an urgent need to adopt farm management practices that are more environmentally, financially and socially sustainable. It is not always a quick and easy process, but it was fascinating to hear more about what can be done to accelerate this transition.” #LEAFConference #ClimateChange #Farming

Diversification can unlock real potential for rural estates, as shown by the Clifton Castle Estate’s innovative glamping project in the Yorkshire Dales. By partnering with Rest + Wild, a company specialising in high-end, design-led sites, the estate has transformed non-productive woodland into a thriving tourist destination. Peter Casey, a surveyor in our Northallerton office, highlights the benefits: “Managing a tourism enterprise is a massive commitment – you need someone available to handle queries and emergencies almost 24/7. This partnership model allows the estate to benefit from diversification without taking on the day-to-day pressures.” Discover how this approach is delivering financial and social value in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/egdsmvpW #LandDiversification #RuralBusiness #Glamping #YorkshireDales #EstateManagement
