It’s been an incredibly busy few weeks at Studio Ulster and I want to take a moment to extend my gratitude to some of the remarkable individuals I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with recently. It was an honour and a delight to host local legend Mark Huffam at our studios. Mark is one of the world’s leading film producers, just emerging from production of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II. I was delighted to speak at the event about the work we’re doing at Studio Ulster, while Mark engaged in a fireside chat about his extraordinary career, expertly moderated by Jeremy Fitch from Invest Northern Ireland. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mark for joining us (and for bringing into the studio the actual Jeep that Tom Hanks drove as Captain Miller in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan!). A special thanks also to Jeremy for his incredible contribution to the film industry in Northern Ireland. Jeremy’s efforts—often behind the scenes—have played a pivotal role in supporting and encouraging large-scale productions to film in Northern Ireland. @Studio Ulster wishes him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. My thanks also go to Gabe Moynagh and the Young Presidents’ Organization YPO for bringing their event to our doorstep, an opportunity to connect with so many like-minded CEOs from across the island. Following a studio tour, the day was capped by an inspirational address at Titanic Belfast by Irish deep-sea explorer Rory Golden, who shared his experiences exploring the #Titanic wreck at -12,500 ft. I was honoured to be a guest speaker at this year’s CU Ulster University graduation in Doha, Qatar with Ulster University colleague Paul Bartholomew. My thanks to Artan Holding Deputy CEO Nasser Hussan al-Naimi for the beautiful presentation, to Professor Faris Gorashi Faris, Georgiana D. and Lamese Abrahams for their excellent organisation and welcome and to Madam Natra Abulla for the invitation. Wishing the class of 2024 the very best for the future! Thanks also to BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen for the invitation to join the inaugural Screen Industries Sustainability Showcase this week. I joined our CSO, 🎥 Christina Nowak, to discuss sustainable screen production in Northern Ireland and how our facility can support productions on their journey towards net-zero. Congratulations to Gavin Kelly and Shane Glynn for successfully launching this essential showcase at Belfast Harbour Studios—here’s to many more! A huge thank you to James Applegate, American Consul General to Northern Ireland and Sarah, for inviting me to a special reception at their home in honour of Joe Kennedy III this week. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the incredible work Joe has been doing in Northern Ireland over the past few years. Lastly, I’d like to offer a quick thank you to Damian Murphy and colleagues at University of York for hosting our #CoSTAR National Board meeting in the beautiful Guildhall last week.
