Our planet’s vital signs are flashing red, according to the recently launched Planetary Health Check 2024. This new groundbreaking report evaluates Earth’s health using the Planetary Boundaries framework. It marks a pivotal milestone in understanding our planet’s wellbeing. 👉https://lnkd.in/ejy_nW-E By assessing all nine Planetary Boundary processes, the report reveals that 6 out of 9 planetary boundaries have crossed their safe thresholds. For the financial markets, these breaches signal both risks and opportunities. One knock on implication may be customers and other stakeholders reacting to accelerated change by demanding greater sustainability from the products and services they select. Johan Rockström from PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research warns, “The planet is changing faster than we had expected... Abrupt changes are occurring beyond our realistic expectations in science.” The Planetary Health Check 2024 provides a science-based “safe operating space for humanity” to prevent dangerous, large-scale abrupt or irreversible environmental changes. It is both a scientific update and a call to action for policymakers worldwide to safeguard our planet’s future. 🚨Big Announcement: The First-Ever Planetary Health Check launched today at New York Climate Week! We’re excited to share the release of the first annual aggregate assessment of the state of our planet, known as the Planetary Health Check. This groundbreaking report evaluates Earth’s health by combining insights from all nine Planetary Boundary processes, marking a critical milestone in understanding our planet’s wellbeing🌱 🌿 Key findings: - Six out of nine Planetary Boundaries have already been breached. - A seventh boundary is at risk of imminent transgression. - Seven of the nine boundaries show trends moving deeper into the high-risk red zone. The findings are clear: planet Earth is far outside the safe operating space for humanity and is rapidly approaching a state of red alert, serving as an urgent call to action for governments, industries, and individuals worldwide to address these planetary challenges. Together, we must work towards a safer, more sustainable future for all. 🌍✨ Check the new website: https://lnkd.in/eUxVz7kn #BeaPlanetaryGuardian, #ClimateWeekNYC, #ItIsTime, #PlanetaryBoundaries

World Mental Health Day 2024 focuses on the link between mental health and work. In recognition of the theme, we hosted a closed event this week at the Capital Group offices to discuss mental health in the trading industry. As we reflect on this important topic, we acknowledge that the demands of the trading desk can make it hard for employees to prioritise their health and well-being. The LIFE BEYOND THE DESK: The Trading Employee Workplace Experience Report sheds light on the struggles many face in balancing the high expectations of their roles with personal well-being: 1. One in five employees feel their job does not enable them to be healthy. 2. While 65% report some flexibility to leave the desk, many still find it difficult to take breaks and manage personal responsibilities. 3. There is a clear need for changes that support employee health without compromising performance. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eRqfJSMS As one employee put it, “Working long hours across multiple regions means I have less time to focus on my health.” This sentiment resonates with many. While challenges are clear, it’s encouraging that many feel their roles to support their health. So, what can trading firms do to cultivate a more supportive environment? How can we encourage a culture that values health as much as performance? Check out the full report for insights on fostering a healthier work environment. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #SustainableTrading #EmployeeWellbeing #Health #WorkLifeBalance #FutureOfTrading

Yesterday, we held a closed doors panel discussion on mental health in the trading industry, aligned with this year’s World Mental Health Day theme: Mental Health at Work. We want to extend our gratitude to all attendees, our hosts Capital Group and to Simon Steward for warmly welcoming the audience. Special thanks to our panellists—Matthew Cousens (Execution and Trading Specialist), Tom Ungi (True Partnership) and moderator Anita Karppi (Buy-side Trading Community (BTC))—for their honest and insightful discussion. The session included personal experiences from the panellists and audience, and highlighted industry-wide efforts to enhance support. The discussion covered factors affecting mental health, the importance of raising awareness, setting boundaries, and the key role colleagues and leaders play in fostering a supportive workplace environment. Thank you to everyone involved for making this important conversation possible. https://lnkd.in/gAH5P3QB World Health Organization #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #Trading #Trading #TradingDesk #SustainableTrading

The recent Global Trading article “Stocks Around the Clock” brings the potential shift to 24/7 trading into sharp focus, highlighting a critical challenge: the need for a workforce capable of continuous trading. As mental health and workplace wellbeing come under increasing scrutiny, The Investment Association emphasises that the “current long hours culture impacts on traders’ mental health and wellbeing. It has also been identified as a key obstacle in recruiting and retaining more diverse talent.” Our Trading Employee Workplace Experience Report provides additional and up to date insight. It reveals that 35% of employees who commented on industry improvements suggested reducing market hours, and 37% commenting on their wellbeing voiced concerns about the adverse effects of long hours. While 24/7 trading may offer potential benefits, what are the implications for trading professionals? Let us know your thoughts.
