Here to help you build a wedding business that you’re proud of, one that has sustainability at its core.
About us
The Sustainable Wedding Alliance is here to help you build a business that you’re proud of, one that has sustainability at its core and that balances people and planet. What is the Sustainable Wedding Alliance? Experience of working with couples directly means that we know that they wish they had a greater choice when it comes to sustainable (and ethical) suppliers. As people become increasingly aware of climate change, and start to understand what their impact on the environment truly is, I know this want, that clients have, will soon turn to a need. But it’s not just about consumer demand. As responsible business owners, we all need to take a look at the way we run both our businesses and the events and weddings we produce. For many it’s a daunting task, but it doesn’t need to be. Sustainability isn’t just about just making a few simple changes, it’s about adapting the way your business works, understanding the relationship between your business and our planet and balancing the two. At the Sustainable Wedding Alliance we are passionate about creating a more sustainable wedding industry through education, support and accreditation. We work with businesses to create long term sustainable strategies that they can implement themselves, or with our support.

The Sustainable Wedding Alliance (SWA) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with betternotstop to offer an exclusive B Corp Bootcamp to its accredited members. This initiative aims to empower sustainable wedding businesses to further their commitment to positive impact and explore the rigorous B Corp certification process. The B Corp Bootcamp, developed by 🌳 Hannah Cox, Founder of betternotstop, The Better Business Network (BBN) and a respected B Leader, provides in-depth training and guidance on the B Corp framework. It covers key areas such as governance, workers, community, environment, and customers, equipping businesses with the tools and knowledge needed to assess and improve their social and environmental performance. This partnership expands the opportunities available to SWA's accredited members, who have already demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable practices. By joining forces with the Better Business Network (BBN), SWA reinforces its dedication to fostering a community of businesses that prioritise people and planet alongside profit. "We are incredibly excited to partner with the Better Business Network to offer this invaluable opportunity to our accredited members," said Michelle Miles, Founder & CEO of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance. "The course aligns perfectly with our mission to build a more sustainable wedding industry. By providing our members with access to expert training and resources, we are empowering them to take their commitment to sustainability to the next level and become leaders in the better business movement." Hannah Cox, Founder of the betternotstop, added, "I'm delighted to collaborate with the Sustainable Wedding Alliance and bring the B Corp Bootcamp to their accredited members. We share a common vision of creating a business landscape that prioritises positive impact. This course will equip these dedicated businesses with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the B Corp process and ultimately become a force for good." betternotstop is an accredited CPD training provider. As a result, the course is CPD Accredited. In addition to the bootcamp, Fleur Record Smith will be joining us for live, monthly sessions to support businesses through their B Corp journey. As the Owner of Hayne House Events Venue, a B Leader and Founder of Engage, Fleur will be bringing a wealth of wedding industry specific knowledge. The #bcorpbootcamp is now live and available to SWA accredited members. #responsiblebusiness #sustainableweddingbusiness #bcorp

We are delighted to announce that we have been accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation by the UN-recognised The Carbon Literacy Project. This prestigious accreditation recognises our commitment to upskill our people to play a proactive role in reducing our organisational carbon emissions, and work towards a zero carbon future. Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change. We've been running Carbon Literacy for Wedding Professionals since April 2023, and since then have trained over 150 people. Tomorrow we'll be hosting our next in person programme at Boconnoc for Cornwall based wedding businesses. Check out our event listings for future sessions. Being accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation is an important achievement for us because it: - Encourages and supports the wedding industry professionals to collaborate to identify and implement carbon reduction - Demonstrates our commitment to developing a low-carbon wedding industry - Enables us to drive faster action on climate change - Sets a positive example of sustainability leadership in the industry We're also very excited that next month we'll be launching Carbon Literacy Training for Event Pros, for those individuals working outside the wedding industry! #carbonliteracy #climateactionnow #climateeducation

I'm doing something a little different this week! The response to Pioneer of the Year—our annual celebration of the extraordinary individuals in The Better Business Network —has been absolutely overwhelming. Read to the end to find out about amazing opportunity the Kindness Project is sharing with us too... 🚀 FIVE WEEKS TILL THE BETTER BUSINESS SUMMIT 🚀 This year, James Dady and I invited BBN members to nominate themselves or others, and our fantastic panel of judges Russ Avery (Avery & Brown | B Corp™), Mike Smith (Open Media UK) and Elle Chartres (Ad Net Zero) carefully selected nominees who are making the biggest impact in their industry, sector, or community. The five shortlisted pioneers will each have just five minutes to share their inspiring stories with the audience at the Better Business Summit this January. The winner, decided by audience vote, will be crowned “Pioneer of the Year" and will be celebrated on billboards around the country! And the shortlist is... 🎉 Simon Hall from Airway Medical Ltd 🎉 Michelle Miles 💚Founder of Sustainable Wedding Alliance | B Corp™ 🎉 Isabel Mack, Founder at Party Kit Network CIC 🎉 Catherine Manning Founder of Measure Up 🎉 And Re-Action Collective, Heather Davies & Gavin Fernie-Jones one of you will have to take the mantel here... LASTLY... The Kindness Project has kindly donated FIVE free tickets to this year’s Better Business Summit! We strive to keep ticket prices as accessible as possible, but we know it can still be a challenge for some. If you’ve been following along and would love to attend but finances have been a barrier, please reach out to me directly at hannah@betternotstop.com. P.S. Don’t forget—there are also Pay What You Can tickets available, and BBN members get £100 off all ticket types! P.P.S Who remembers this moment from last year 🤣
