Switch It Green

After 4 fantastic years, I've decided to step back from my role as CEO at the climate action startup I co-founded. It all started with a transatlantic zoom call during lockdown, when I was lucky enough to meet Anna Chirico. Together, we identified a gap in the market for high-impact climate action. Switch It Green was born. Any #founder will understand how difficult stepping back from your baby is! I will continue to act as an Advisor, as the organisation moves into its next phase - supporting other campaigns to drive action with our platform and workshops. 🔥 I am so proud of what we’ve achieved so far. From across the pond, we’ve built an incredible action platform and education campaign which has provided accessible, impactful #climateaction for everyone, and has upped the ante on the banks funding #climatebreakdown. 🏅 Over the last year, since we launched the Green Banking Platform and our green banking education sessions, we’ve supported: * Over 10,000 to people check if they bank funds fossil fuels * Over 6,000 people to switch to a green bank * Over 2,000 people to lobby their bank * Thousands more to be educated in the power of #greenbanking and collective action, with sessions delivered to thousands of students, members of faith groups, healthcare professionals and businesses across the country * Conversations with policy makers and #sustainability leads at banks, discussing the changes needed to stop losing customers through our platform ❣️Our success has been down to the passion, talent and tenacity of our triptych of girl bosses - soul sister Anna Chirico and Amber Hayward (a.k.a. Best Hire Ever). We have learnt, listened, laughed, cried, been at our wits end, and celebrated incredible successes with multiple margaritas. 💸 I have also had the joy to work with brilliant campaigners and business leaders from our partner organisations who have been pivotal to our success. 🌟 As I embark on this new chapter, I’m excited to announce I am open again to consultancy work and speaking engagements. I’m eager to share expertise and insights gained from my decade’s experience in advertising, startups and movement building. We know that banks are set to finance enough new oil & gas reserves to blow our world's remaining carbon budgets 7x over. This means millions of lives at risk and devastation of our ecosystems. That’s why I set up Switch It Green. 💸The theory History shows us that banks respond to consumer demand and brand devaluation. The highly successful anti-apartheid movement employed mass bank account switching to pressure Barclays into withdrawing its financial support from South Africa during the apartheid. The end of the apartheid is strongly attributed to the financial impact of the campaign. Their tactics included hundreds of thousands of students switching their bank accounts. The same is possible for fossil fuels & deforestation. 🐝The strategy For the last year, we've been building the foundations to educate, empower & mobilise the public to switch bank accounts, collectively, to stop banks from investing in polluting industries. We've built the Green Banking Platform, and have developed key networks of thousands people - across health, faith and education - who are ready to take action, together, on a big scale.
