Nice to be back at Penllergaer on the former 3Ms site carrying out some enabling work for our client Tri-Wall UK Ltd who are based at the former dispatch warehouse. So sad to see the top plant totally abandoned after having been working at the site since the snows of 1982 and playing our part in building the most efficient video tape factory in Europe at the time.

Phase 1 of Pembrey School is now complete - this design and build Secure by Design, Passivhaus Standard, BREEAM Excellent school caters for 270 pupils, 30 Nursery places and has an Integrated Children’s Centre (Flying Start). This has been delivered under the South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework for Carmarthenshire County Council. BIG THANKS to all those involved who worked with us to make this a reality that all can be very proud of. We have been shortlisted for the prestigious Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2024 as a Medium Employer of the Year finalist. TRJ was founded by former Apprentice T. Richard Jones in 1935. Some 89 years later, the company is still employing Apprentices, ensuring a constant stream of construction talent for South West Wales. Over the past five years, we have employed 43 Apprentices and we support the award-winning Shared Apprenticeships and Traditional Apprenticeship Programmes through Cyfle Building Skills, and Coleg Sir Gâr, Neath Port Talbot College, Bridgend College, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and University of South Wales. Apprenticeships from Foundation to Higher Levels are provided in Carpentry, Bricklaying, Plastering, Construction and Civil Engineering Operations, Plant Mechanics, Multi-skilled Operatives, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and Painting and Decorating. “Learning and development are a key part of the company's commitment to developing our employees' careers,” said Stuart Thomas, TRJ’s Social Value and Training Officer. “The founder began his career as an Apprentice Carpenter, who then built the company and instilled in others the importance of education and development.” Economy Minister Vaughan Gething congratulated TRJ and all the other finalists. “Today's apprentices will be tomorrow's specialists, and Apprenticeship Awards Cymru allows us to recognise apprentices, work-based learning practitioners, and employers that have gone above and beyond,” he said.
