‘Charities can’t exist without trustees, they’re absolutely essential’ – Our Chief Executive Dr Lindsay Cordery-Bruce talks about the importance of trustees and her trustee journey ❤️ #TrusteesWeek
Croeso / welcome. We are Tai Pawb, a Welsh charity dedicated to fostering inclusivity in the housing sector. We imagine a Wales where everyone has the right to a good home. Too many people in Wales don’t have somewhere to live in security, peace and dignity. Too many people face systemic prejudice, discrimination and disadvantage in accessing suitable accommodation. We are determined to change that. We are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, has fair and equitable access to housing opportunities. We work with our members, policymakers, and communities to eliminate discrimination and advance inclusive practices. Through training, resources, collaboration, influencing and advocacy, we're working towards a housing environment where diversity thrives. Come on this journey with us.

Many organisations think they’re inclusive and diverse, but the truth might not match that perception. Read the blog by our Head of Business, Ceri Meloy, on how to evaluate your organisation's inclusivity with six essential questions:

My One Year Anniversary! It's hard to believe it's been a year already since I started as a Training Consultant with Tai Pawb: an organization that Advances Equity and Social Justice in Housing in Wales. I've found a perfect alignment between my skills and their mission. Tai Pawb's commitment to fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion resonates deeply with my own values. Over the past year, I've had the privilege of delivering training sessions, including unconscious bias, equality, diversity, and inclusion, and anti-racism training to board members. It's been incredibly rewarding to witness firsthand the positive impact of these sessions on individuals and organizations. My expertise in adult learning, coupled with my passion for social justice, has enabled me to create engaging and impactful training experiences. I've tailored workshops to address specific organizational needs, empowering participants to challenge their own biases and promote a more inclusive culture. The positive feedback from participants has been truly inspiring. The testimonials from the participants reinforce the value of my work and motivate me to continue striving for excellence. As I reflect on this past year, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Tai Pawb's mission. I look forward to the future and the continued opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. #edi #housing #empowerment #anti_racism #learning #edira #SocialJustice #impact

'Siomedig' sounds like the word I need, but really don't want, in my vocabulary atm. Diolch Steve Jones The campaign for the Right to Adequate Housing in Wales is supported by the public, by a strong independent cost benefit analysis from Alma Economics and by our existing international human rights commitments. It also has the continually growing support of stakeholders. We must continue to grow the political will needed to deliver a step change in Wales - where home is hardwired as a human right, not an asset. Tai Pawb Matt Dicks CIHCM Shelter Cymru
"Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards" (Billy Bragg) I was reminded of Billy's song as I read my way through the snappily entitled Welsh Government's "White Paper on Adequate Housing". Why? - because we still are waiting for a coherent National Housing Strategy! Plenty of housing legislation but insufficient resources to implement the existing legislation. Now the promise of more legislation, which will require the Welsh Government to have a national strategy along with other vague things. I would love to have found the "Reasons to be cheerful part 3" (Ian Dury and the Blockheads) over the weekend, whilst searching for hope in the White Paper. I am a self confessed housing geek of 40+ years, but even I found the reading tough. So I innovated, with a bit of prompting from Mrs Jones: I resorted to putting the White Paper into Chatgpt.com, asking for a summary - it gave me a one side of A4 summary which was excellent. I then asked it to define "adequate" in context, also "affordability" and "how will this prevent enforced evictions". Its the first time I have tried Chatgpt for work - try it - I was impressed, even though I had read the paper twice already. It also found no evidence of cheerfulness, and that was without asking it to consider the recent Shelter Cymru and Bevan Foundation reports on temporary accommodation misery and the cost of the same. 11,000 people in unsuitable temporary accommodation, costing £1bn. This is the housing emergency which needs fixing now! I was preparing for a tv interview I had been requested to do today for the BBC/S4c in Welsh. Its not happening today now but maybe later in the week, possibly linked to the crumbs that come to Wales from the UK budget table on Wednesday via the unfair Barnet formula. Thanks to Shelter Cymru Ruth Power and Matt Dicks CIHCM from CIOH Cymru for their input and discussion since Friday. My Welsh word of the day to describe the White Paper? "Siomedig" which translates to "dissapointing" in English. It lacks ambition, committement, or direction, despite quoting the excellent Future Generations and Well Being Act. I used the same word last week, in relation to a county Council which is in a death spiral but still insists on staying in "command and control" mode. Reasons to be cheerful on a rainy Monday morning? Well, the housing sector is full of positive people who will speak truth to power and eventually get the Wales we want to see. Also there are decent PRS landlords and philanthropic people out there who will help in delivering decent homes for their local communities. Finally, this was still written by a human being who cares, and is untouched by AI at present 😁
