We are delighted that Taking Pictures, Changing Lives Foundation has chosen to support us by sending the very talented Bhargav Shandilya to document our work in rural Odisha state, India, this month 📷 Taking Pictures, Changing Lives helps charities to raise awareness and funds for their life-changing work, by providing them with breath-taking photographs and films of the work they do. What a great event last night with Andrew Mitchell MP, Deputy Foreign Secretary, sharing his reflections on more than a decade of international development policy! I found it fascinating how closely his macro-level observations resonated with our micro-level experience; he explored how conflict, climate change, gender based violence and education for girls are cross-cutting challenges to overcome for effective development. Of course #SavingsGroups supported by Five Talents UK across eastern #Africa experience and address all of these issues: 🌳 Many of our entrepreneurs invest in drought-resistant crops or rainwater harvesting tanks, and use their social fund to support the wider community after flooding ⛔ 98% of men in our programme in Burundi now advocate against GBV 🕊 In South Sudan, members from different ethnic groups now learn, save and invest together, re-building trust and peace in daily life 📚 Almost every member we meet says "Now my children are going to school." Five Talents' motto, "The Power of What We Have," speaks to the importance of collaboration - we all have something to offer, and it helps that we align around the same priorities. Taking Pictures, Changing Lives Foundation is an amazing charity that I had the privilege of working with when they offered to visit and support Kujuwa Initiative last year. We came away with an incredible set of photographs and video footage that really captured the essence of Kujuwa Initiative’s work and the beautiful beneficiaries we get to serve. With one day left of their crowdfunder for this year’s campaign, there’s still time to donate and help many more underrepresented charities gain more visibility in the world. ✌🏼
