What does an almost perfect end to the week look like for us in Recruitment and Talent Delivery? Because I might have just experienced it. Well, it doesn't happen often and I'm not the best self-promoter, but having introduced 2 superb high-level client facing candidates to a good customer for a key role, we were left facing a problem...... Which one do they choose? There's nothing in their skills, experiences or drive to separate them in a meaningful way. Neither have any negatives that any of us could quantify. Sounds great, right? So who do they choose? Great for me, but despite the headache actually better for the customer. Because, thanks largely to the customer's own values and adaptability, rather than having a Yes and a No (leaving one superb candidate extremely disappointed), they're going with a Yes and another Yes (for a newly created role). That doesn't happen very often at all. And do you know what's the craziest part? BOTH candidates before final interview privately said to me "Wouldn't it be fantastic if BOTH of us got to work here?" It says a lot about them both. 😁 I'm very thankful to the candidates themselves (they know who they are), for proving they're as capable as we believed them to be, and to all the customer stakeholders involved, who saw the value and capability and made a positive commitment to not only the future of their business but also both candidates careers too. It's been an interesting week. As recruiters we seem to spend our time searching in an ever decreasing talent pool. For example, Prepress was once a great entry into the Print & Packaging sectors. But now, where have all the Prepress Operators gone? (Not to mention Press Operators and Print Finishers) Is it a symptom of continuing automation? Did we lose so many during Covid to other sectors? Are companies paying enough for these skills? We think the answer is probably yes. But it's not the only reason. We'd love to hear your thoughts and maybe what the industry can do about it. I have a really exciting opportunity for a Digital Print Sales Specialist to join a business that has continually invested in itself and its people. The goal is to help them grow, add value to their clients and build new client relationships. You may be well looked after, but at the limit of the business' capabilities. You may feel like a cog in a wheel and just a number on a spreadsheet. You may feel with the right leadership that you can achieve anything you put your mind to! Who knows? I'm looking for qualified printers for a number of roles I'm actively recruiting for. I'm looking for No.1 & No.2 Web Printers specifically. For the No.1 roles you'll need to be operating at least 16pp twin or 32pp Heatset Webs at the moment. For the No.2 roles we would very much look to retrain B1/B2 No.1 Minders with good print experience. Full training will be provided to ensure you're fully equipped to fulfil the roles, as well as to maintain your and your colleagues safety.
