It’s Thursday, which can only mean one thing… A new But Is It Legal? Podcast episode! This week, Natalie Sutherland, Partner at Burgess Mee joins Simon for an in-depth conversation, covering personal and professional. Specialising in surrogacy and fertility law, Natalie walks us through her career progression, starting as ‘just a girl from a small town in Wales’ and ‘the first from the family to go to university’ to Partner at a leading major law firm. From first being introduced to law at A level, then progressing onto law school, Natalie talks through her learnings from breaking into the industry, and how her work broadened over the years. On top of her practice, Natalie speaks more about co-founding In/Fertility in the City, a podcast which started as an event, focused on shifting workplace culture to better understand and accommodate women and motherhood.   She explains how, during the pandemic amid the rise of mental health awareness, Natalie realised fertility was not spoken about enough, so the first event was born, leading to much, much more progress... For an insightful look into the world of a changemaker, be sure to tune in… Watch or listen now on all major streaming platforms (linked below in the comments 🔔) #FamilyLaw #LegalSector #FertilityLaw #Surrogacy

Today on the But Is It Legal? Podcast, we have the one and only Jen Shipley. As Senior Associate Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, the #1 Legal LinkedInfluencer of the Q3 rankings, and consistent high-ranker in LinkedInfluencer reports since its conception, it's safe to say Jen has made waves on Linkedin for the sector. Sitting down with Simon P MARSHALL, she explains how during her 12 years of experience she has been able to make a real difference to people's lives through her work. Jen expresses the power of the personal touch with LinkedIn, and how it's allowed her to reach new people in need of help, especially true regarding more sensitive cases, where clients prefer to call an individual they feel familiar with via LinkedIn, instead of calling a somewhat impersonal legal helpline.  To buttress this, Jen talks about content pillars and the importance of talking about the same thing over and over again, and learning to be comfortable with 'feeling like a broken record'. As Jen notes, it only takes one comment for your content to find its way into a new network, bringing with it new opportunities... For tips from the top (and for dealing with endless notifications in Jen's case), you are going to want to tune in. Today on the But Is It Legal? Podcast, Simon P MARSHALL is joined by Dana Denis-Smith, CEO of Obelisk Support | B Corp Certified and Founder of Next 100 Years: Women In Law. In this episode, Dana shares more about her unique route into law, starting in journalism, with her husband, a barrister, playing a significant role in fostering her interest in the sector.  As she explains, she later founded Obelisk, and with four ex-city lawyers, pioneered flexible work in legal teams, since placing over 2,000 legal professionals across the industry. Reflecting on some of the challenges women face in the industry, Dana highlights the need for a more inclusive environment, and how initiatives like Next 100 Years are vital for such progression. Dana also speaks on the concept of leaving the past behind so that you can re-write the future, and the importance of maintaining a broad perspective and being more than one thing, which she reflects in her personal and professional life. Florence Brocklesby, Founder of Bellevue Law is a close friend of TBD Marketing Ltd. Last week, she sat down with Simon P MARSHALL to have an open and honest conversation, like close friends do. As an employment law specialist, Florence shares her perspective and expertise around the issue of the worrying increase in sexual misconduct reports in the media, also signposted by an increase in reports to the SRA. As the issue rightfully becomes more of a prevalent discussion, in Florence's perspective, addressing these problems must take the form of an honest and transparent approach, so that we can first understand it, and then take steps to eliminate it. Florence explains how this has to come authentically from the top of organisations for it to be effectively implemented, especially in large organisations, where such misconduct is statistically inevitable. Tune in for an in-depth look at the important issue, and hear advice for leaders to create a better work environment.
