About us

“Supporting teenagers and young adults to overcome the challenges cancer brings.” There are 2,405 new cases of cancer in teenagers and young adults in the UK each year. 48% of these are based in the South East of England and need the ongoing support of Teens Unite. We inspire young people who have been diagnosed to recognise their potential, now and in the future and empower them to live every moment to the full. When you’re faced with cancer, plenty of people will tell you what you can’t do, but we show these young people what they can do, without the ‘c’ word holding them back or defining who they are. Through the regular activities we organise, young people can benefit from peer-to-peer support by spending time with others who genuinely understand, as well as learning new skills, challenging themselves and seeing that there is life beyond cancer.

  • The Beauty & Skincare Workshop in collaboration with indu 🧖🏼♀️ Last week we were beyond delighted to be joined by our friends at indu! The official skincare & makeup brand for teens, suitable for all teen skin. The fabulous ladies behind the brand hosted a very empowering workshop with some of the young adults & teenagers we support. We spoke all things skincare after treatment, learnt some handy makeup skills, got to grips with our individual skin types, & more! As you may be aware, a cancer diagnosis may leave a young person with very low confidence & self-esteem. Treatment may cause many changes within their skin & hair which is a huge part of an individuals identity. This is why workshops like this are absolutely vital! & what better to do it amongst other young people who understand these challenges & struggles. A community they can fully relate to. Following our support & events, 100% feel better connected & less lonely… 🫶🏼 We’d like to say a massive thank you to indu for hosting us! As well as providing many goodie bags with some top notch indu products, which will help the young people we support keep up those skincare routines & feel their best selves. We can not wait to work with these guys again. 💚💙💜🧡 #shapinglives #empoweringyoungpeople

  • Then VS Now. It’s #InternationalBrainTumourAwarenessWeek so we thought we’d ask some of the young adults & teenagers who’ve faced this diagnosis head on, to share a little life update with us! Meet Kai… “Hello, I’m Kai. They say a picture paints a thousand words and this was no ordinary year 6 school picture. 2 months before this picture, aged 11, I was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. A Pineal Germinoma. I felt paralysed, I was unable to do anything for myself. I then had radiotherapy, and my smile came back as I was able to see my friends again. However, I wore the hat to hide my scar and baldness, as well as a jumper to hide my cannula. The insecurities never fully left until I found Teens Unite. I was able to finally open up and tell my story behind the picture. This ignited a fire in my stomach to pursue a dream of becoming a paediatric oncologist! It was an extremely tough 16 year journey, through losing my dad and 7 Teens Unite friends to cancer. However, this only fuelled my passion. I am now 8 months away from becoming a doctor! I returned back to my neurosurgical ward after a decade, now as a healthcare assistant/soon to be doctor. The staff were baffled as my face looked familiar. I told them ‘I was a patient on this wards 16 years ago’. Their mouths dropped when they remembered who I was and how far I’d come” Many of the young adults & teenagers we support are only at the start of their road to recovery. After treatment is when the hard work begins. Sharing stories like Kai’s brings comfort in knowing there is a life beyond cancer diagnosis waiting & we are here to help them navigate their way there. 💜💚 #thenvsnow #cancerthriver #bettertogether #united #cancercommunity
