We are so excited for our team of 15 officers that are taking on the Yorkshire three Peaks Challenge tomorrow. It looks like it will be a beautiful sunny day with a possible foggy start, so they should be able to enjoy the wonderful views from the summits! The route is 24-miles (38.6km) with 1585m (5200ft) of ascent that includes the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres). They will be at the start line at 6am in Horton, Ribblesdale and the challenge is to complete the hike within 12 hours or less. The team have been training for the last few months and will join 650 people at the start line from public sector organisations and their partners, all with a goal of completing the challenge before the cut off time and raising as much money as they can for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) . We are flying the Red Ensign flag above all of our council buildings today to support a nationwide call from the Seafarers UK charity and the Merchant Navy Association, marking Merchant Navy Day. This campaign remembers the sacrifices, salute the courage and support the future of the often unsung personnel of our Merchant Navy.

This is a national recognition of the value of these special sites for both wildlife and people. Never visited these local gems? Here’s some facts and info to tempt you to check them out next time you fancy a walk in the great outdoors… 🐞Ladies Walk is a historic and scenic route on the southeastern edge of Andover, surrounded by three meadows with rich potential for diverse plant and insect species. 🌳Established in 1785 and steeped in history, this path was originally part of the ancient Mark Way, with its trees planted in 1863 to commemorate the wedding of the future King Edward VII. 🌼The site features sloping grasslands and ancient fields, now managed to enhance its nature conservation value under the guidance of Natural England. With restored chalk grasslands and sweeping views across Andover, Ladies Walk offers a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. 🦋Abbotswood Nature Reserve is a vibrant 19-hectare haven just north of Romsey, where diverse habitats and ancient oak trees provide a haven for wildlife, including Great Crested Newts, birds, bats, and butterflies. 🦔This Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) balances wildlife conservation with public access, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, opportunities for learning, and the health benefits of green spaces. 🌳Abbotswood is a cherished community asset, protected and enhanced for future generations through ongoing conservation efforts.

We commissioned Absolar Solutions to conduct remote solar surveys of premises on the business parks in Test Valley ☀ If you occupy one of these premises, letters with the results of the survey have been posted out to you - so keep an eye out! These surveys reveal: 1️⃣ The size of system capable of fitting on each roof (in areas subject to suitable radiation and avoiding obstacles, including skylights). 2️⃣ The potential financial and environment savings such a system could deliver. 3️⃣ The potential installation cost and return on investment.
