ESG is due for a rebrand 📢 Instead of the tired controversy over its relevance, the debate has now moved on to how to measure the impact of investment decisions on people’s real lives. Increasingly what investors – professional and private – want to see is ‘I’, real impact, independently verified. This week we hosted an event in the House of Commons to celebrate our new partnership between Big Issue Recruit and SameYou to help brain injury survivors get back into work 💼 Emilia Clarke MBE, Co-Founder of brain injury recovery charity SameYou addressed business leaders and key politicians alongside a series of survivors and hosted by Lord John Bird. Emilia said: “We at SameYou are so grateful for all that the Big Issue has done for us, and I couldn’t be happier standing here in front of you all to talk about getting people back to work.” Paul Cheal, CEO of Big Issue Group adds: “By working together we can not only support brain injury survivors to have the confidence and skills to be work ready, but also help to place them into roles with supportive employers.” Big Issue Recruit supports people who face barriers to finding sustainable employment by providing a job coach – as a THIRD of survivors revealed they struggled with returning to work after trauma. Employers are currently letting them down. As many as ONE in FIVE survivors rated the support they received from their workplace after returning as ‘poor’. Get involved today 👫 For candidates looking to use the service – visit jobs.bigissue.com 🏦 For businesses looking to support people with barriers to work - email jobs@bigissue.com Thank you to everyone who joined and presented including; C&C Group, Mind Charity, Accenture, British Business Bank, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Microsoft, Deloitte, Lightning Reach and UCL

Liz Kendall, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) secretary, in a speech today to Jobcentre staff has said: “Over the last 14 years, millions of people have been denied their rightful chance of participating in the labour market, and the hope of a brighter future. They’ve been excluded, left out, categorised and labelled. Britain isn’t working." Katy Wright, Big Issue Recruit Director, welcomes the new government's plans for reform: 💬 “At the Big Issue, we have been contacted by hundreds of people who have shared harrowing experiences of proving benefit eligibility – a process that’s leaving them in extreme distress, more impoverished and even suicidal.   Time and time again we see the same barrier in our candidates – a crippling lack of confidence created by years of existing in a benefits system that does not meet their needs. There is a different way possible. In our candidates, we’ve built resilience so they can navigate the barriers to employment and find work that will meet their individual needs – work that sticks.   We now strongly urge the DWP to push increased jobcentre integration with mental health services, as recommended in yesterday’s report from the great Alan Milburn. The closer aligned these services can be, the more truly sustainable solutions we’ll unlock for the 3 million ‘economically inactive’ people without work in this country.” Learn more about Liz Kendall's plans here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDNxpJ9n
