Shelter’s Lucy Cheetham on the key takeaways you need to know about 👇🏼

Too many people face this problem - the threat of homelessness and the fear that they won't be able to find a place to rent. Our advice pages can help people when things are really hard to deal with. Our pages explain how to ask a council for homeless help and what to do if the council tries to turn someone away. We also have advice on: - whether people can get emergency housing - what to do if they are placed in really bad housing - steps to take if people are homeless after a relationship breakdown - what to do if someone can't afford a suitable home and a lot more. https://lnkd.in/eWcmRe4q Please share this post to get this information to the people who need it. #WorldHomelessDay.

Independent Age have found that almost 1 in 5 (19%) of older tenants are uncomfortable raising concerns with their landlords 👇🏽 Every renter deserves a safe and secure home. The Renters' Rights Bill is an opportunity to start a new chapter on renting, the government must seize it.
Decent homes are vital to health, wellbeing and financial security – especially for older people on low incomes. Despite this, too many older people are living in cold, mouldy or unsafe homes, often afraid to complain through fear of eviction or rent increases. Speaking to landlords and tenants as part of our new research, we found that both agree that access to decent housing is essential. While good landlords already maintain their homes, this must become the standard. The Renters’ Rights Bill is an opportunity to create a fair relationship between renters and landlords, ensuring we all have access to decent homes.
