The Bluecoat is Liverpool's centre for the arts. It is housed in the city centre's oldest building and the oldest combined arts venue of its kind in the UK. The Bluecoat presents a year-round programme of contemporary visual art, live art, music, dance and literature. Following a multi-award winning £14.5m redevelopment, the Bluecoat reopened in early 2008 to build on its reputation for presenting emerging local, national and international talent alongside established artists. The Bluecoat is also home to a community of artists and creative industry businesses who inhabit its studios and office spaces as well as creative retailers with outlets in the courtyard and garden, making this iconic building a vibrant living creative hub.

Winter programme announced ☃️❄️🎅🎄🎁 This festive season, the Bluecoat’s galleries will transform into a bustling marketplace, hosting weekly winter markets in December, giving local artists, members of the Bluecoat’s Creative Community and beyond, the opportunity and the space to showcase and sell their work before Christmas. We're also reflecting back on 2024 with a new exhibition, The Year That Was, featuring artwork for sale by Michelle Williams Gamaker, Babak Ganjei and more, so you'll get the chance to not only experience contemporary art, but also enjoy it in your home or gift to friends and family. This year's Lush Advent Calendar artwork was created by artist Tess Gilmartin. Tess is a member of Blue Room, an inclusive arts program supporting learning disabled and neurodivergent artists who explore contemporary art.
