Across the last 24 hours it has been a privilege to share insight on our work at the Trust, whilst introducing people to #TheCabrach. Last night our Chief Executive was welcomed by The Royal Northern & University Club Aberdeen to provide an after dinner talk. Wonderful company and great questions from the audience. This morning we contributed to a Social Investment Scotland workshop exploring Social Investment Pathways. Here we reflected on our experience of working closely with Brian McNee and SIS colleagues, all in support of The Cabrach Distillery’s start-up activity. It was a pleasure hosting George Burgess, Director of Rural Economy & Agriculture, The Scottish Government, at Inverharroch this morning. An important conversation focused on the history of #TheCabrach, the origin story of The Cabrach Trust, and insight on progress made as we work hard to regenerate this special place. A look inside the stillhouse of The Cabrach Distillery brought to life the transformational centrepiece of the Trust’s theory of change; a capital investment which will soon culminate with the opening of a one-of-kind social enterprise which will serve as the economic lungs of our regeneration strategy. Amongst a wide-ranging conversation, we also spoke through areas of mutual passion and concern including the importance of rural communities and the care required to nurture thriving rural communities and associated economies, touching upon policy areas including Just Transition, Land Reform, and Community Wellbeing. That the Cabrach could become an exemplar of the Scottish Government’s aspirations for thriving rural communities is an exciting proposition. 🌍 Earlier this year, we generated international coverage, most notably in The New York Times, BBC News and on Have I Got News For You, on behalf of The Cabrach Trust on the return of a piece of historic Highland Games silverware to its spiritual home in the north-east of Scotland. 🏆 On Sunday, The Cabrach Rose Bowl was awarded for the first time in almost a Century, allowing another chance for us to tell the story of the brilliant work of our client in The National Newspaper , Daily Express, Daily Record, BBC Scotland, Daily Mail and The Northern Scot (Highland News & Media Ltd). 🥃 The Trust, in its efforts to regenerate a rural community in Moray renowned for its part in whisky lore, reintroduced The Cabrach Picnic and Games after a hiatus of 87 years and last year initiated the hunt for the lost silver Rose Bowl which was traditionally awarded to the best-performing athlete at the event. After a public plea last Summer, Adrian Taylor in Devon, grandson of the last winner of The Cabrach Rose Bowl in 1929, returned the silverware to Moray in February so it could be awarded once more at the Picnic and Games. 👏 Congratulations to north-east natives Jacqueline Coull and Ross Ruickbie, respectively a nurse and RAF sports therapist, who claimed victory in The Cabrach Heavy Stone event, a local take on the traditional shot putt, to become the first winners of Rose Bowl in 95 years. Jacqueline executed a throw of 24 feet 11 inches while Ross cleared 34 feet.

Overseeing the return of The Cabrach Picnic & Games has been a real labour of love for the Trust, alongside a team of incredible partners and volunteers. From tentatively relaunching the Games in 2022, to stepping up the event in 2023 whilst commencing our national search for the lost Cabrach Rose Bowl, to our third edition of the Games yesterday which brought record crowds to #TheCabrach, culminating with the award of the Cabrach Rose Bowl for the first time in almost 90 years! Excellent Sunday afternoon in #TheCabrach. We brought the community together for a BBQ at the Acorn Centre as we continue to develop our #LocalPlacePlan - great attendance and input from across the community, ably supported by Community Enterprise. Thereafter, a walk on our Discovery Trail. Absolute peace and tranquility as our trails near their full summer splendor.
