About us
Welcome to The Canopy Community Hub which aims to contribute to the well being of the local community within the East Marsh of Grimsby by providing space for people to come together through group activities and events. In the coming months The Canopy Kitchen will open which will utilise fruits and vegetables grown by the pre-school children of the Grant Thorold Forest School providing our customers with the choice of healthy foods and smoothies. Our ultimate aim is to ensure the children within surrounding early years settings are equipped with the vital knowledge and experience that growing their own produce can ensure the growth and development of a healthy body and mind. Our Cost of Living Project continues to evolve. Sanitary products and baby care products are expensive and place a huge impact on a families weekly budget yet are an absolute necessity. Last year (2023) an ActionAid poll reported period poverty had risen from 12% to 21% in a year, with 2.8 million women and girls being affected. Women and girls were reportedly choosing to stay home because they couldn't afford sanitary products. Women and girls were using tissue or cotton wool instead of sanitary products. Women and girls were keeping sanitary products in for longer than they should. These are figures from the UK and are relating to our women and girls. Our daughters, sisters, aunts and mothers are having to deal with this issue. When the figures for this year are reported no doubt we will see a similar increase. This is the UK. International Women's Day is just around the corner and these figures are not just disturbing and shocking, they are terrifying and must be addressed. Until our funding runs out we will be providing sanitary and baby care products FREE of charge to our East Marsh families. Thanks to the Uk Government and The National Lottery Community Fund for funding our project.

In November 2023 Christopher Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England advised people to adopt old fashioned methods to stay healthy including to participate in exercise, have mental stimulation and a social network and eat a reasonably balanced diet. We listened and to tackle this Project Brown Paper Bag was born and it's our most simple project yet. Starting tomorrow people of the East Marsh of Grimsby are invited to walk to The Canopy Kitchen, grab a brown paper bag, fill it with fruit, take it away! Next week vegetables, the week after healthy meal recipe kits, the project will just continue to grow and by doing so will help to also tackle the continuing cost of living issues facing our community. Thanks to the Uk Government and The National Lottery Community Fund it is all FREE!

The Canopy Community Hub and Kitchen was initially created to help raise the aspirations of the children of the East Marsh of Grimsby and to encourage and nurture the growth of healthy bodies and minds. We believe our children deserve the biggest and best opportunities no matter what their circumstances in life are and with the incredible support from BBC Children In Need we aim to make that happen. Today not only have we secured funding from them to enable our mission to take flight but we have secured it for three years! We are now in the most fortunate position whereby we can provide funded activities to children from birth to the end of their school years to help support their physical and emotional development whilst focusing on their well being and the development of parent / carer relationships. We are one happy team and can't wait to make further strides on this project!

We have been just about bursting to share our news and what better day than Valentine's Day to share some love! Funding from the Community Cost of Living Fund delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, will help us to further support the community of the East Marsh of Grimsby. Along with food hampers, care packages and baby bundles we will be providing even more activities and training opportunities for all ages. Thanks to the Government for making this possible.
