About us
Founded in 1972, ActionAid has been fighting poverty worldwide for over 30 years. In 2013, ActionAid's work reached 15 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America. At ActionAid we take advantage of over 30 years of knowledge and experience in fighting poverty. We don't impose solutions, but work with communities over many years to strengthen their own efforts to throw off poverty. With more than 2,000 partners worldwide, we work with and support the poorest and most vulnerable people to secure their rights to food, shelter, work, basic healthcare and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. 🚨ActionAid is part of 15 leading aid charities in the Disasters Emergency Committee, launching a Middle East Humanitarian Appeal to raise urgent funds for those affected by conflict. Over the past year, conflict in the Middle East has devastated lives and forced millions to flee their homes in search of safety. Millions across Gaza, Lebanon & the wider region are in urgent need of food, shelter & medical care. “What we are seeing right now is a humanitarian catastrophe on an entirely new level. There's nowhere safe for children & families to go, – Save the Children International's Rachel Cummings 14 DEC member charities are already providing lifesaving aid in Gaza & Lebanon, and 8 in the West Bank, including British Red Cross, Oxfam and Save the Children International. However, member charities urgently need more funds to meet the huge levels of need. Today, appeals to support this vital work will be broadcast on BBC News, ITV, Channel 4 Radio Network, Channel 5 and Sky News following the evening news. BBC radio will be broadcasting throughout the day. We are asking YOU to please donate now to save lives 🙏 https://bit.ly/4hbwwuG

With decades of experience responding to #humanitarian crises, ActionAid knows that when a crisis hits, it is often local, women-led and young people’s organisations who play a vital role in providing lifesaving & recovery services. However, these local organisations are still not treated as equals in decision making by the big humanitarian organisations (including us sometimes) and that really needs to change. We want to see a decolonising of aid and more power in the hands of local organisations, which is why we’re committed to the #GrandBargain. Together with 34 other INGOs, we have released this joint statement: https://lnkd.in/d7K-kwtx
