The Edinburgh Remakery is an environmental social enterprise committed to reducing waste by creating a culture of repair and reuse that puts our community first. We repair and refurbish what others send to landfill, and we pass these repair skills onto others through our education and training programmes. We are small but have a wide impact; in the past 3 years we have diverted 106 tonnes from landfill and have educated over 4,000 people in repair and reuse skills. We engage with thousands of individuals each year and work in partnership with organisations across the UK. We provide corporate services to help businesses reduce their waste and support their communities. Our free Tech Disposal Service allows businesses to pass on end-of-use IT equipment for refurbishment and reuse. A portion of all the reparable devices we receive through this service also go back into helping marginalised and disadvantaged people in our communities through our Tech Gifting Programme, delivering social and environmental impacts. As well as accommodating our retail enterprise, through which we sell on refurbished electronics and restored furniture, the Remakery is also a community resource. We offer training and employment opportunities within the circular economy to those facing barriers to employment, creating green jobs whilst addressing the skills gap and engaging young people. We run creative workshops across a variety of disciplines around the theme of sustainable living. Our events space can be hired out for team-building and networking events, as well as group activities. Businesses can host their next team away day with us, and introduce their staff to the concepts of sustainability through one of our engaging skill-building workshops. Skill sharing is pivotal to what we do. We teach people how to repair, reuse, and remake their belongings rather than throwing them away and buying new - reducing carbon emissions, reducing waste, and reducing pollution.

Last week, our Project & Marketing Executive, Asrar Qazi, had the pleasure of speaking to the pupils at George Heriot's School about sustainability and the circular economy as part of our Tech Donation Box Programme. It was truly inspiring to hear their ideas on reducing waste, tackling e-waste, and bridging the digital divide in our community. The creativity and awareness of these young minds give us hope for a more sustainable future! 💚
"As part of Climate Week, we were thrilled to welcome the Scottish Funding Council to our Tech Teardown Workshop! 💚 Together, we dove into the pressing issues of e-waste and digital poverty both in Scotland and across the UK. Participants rolled up their sleeves, dismantling laptops and other tech to uncover the hidden value in devices that would otherwise go to waste!💻 At Edinburgh Remakery, we’re passionate about providing sustainable corporate tech recycling services and hands-on workshops like this one to inspire positive change. Interested in a corporate workshop or team-building day with us? Get in touch at hello@edinburghremakery.org.uk and let’s take steps toward a more circular economy together! 💚

As part of #ScottishClimateWeek we were delighted to spend the afternoon with some extremely talented people at the The Edinburgh Remakery. We learned some sobering facts about our global addiction to tech and just how much of it we waste when it becomes obsolete or damaged. Part of that workshop involved dismantling one of the thousands of laptops which they receive through their #TechDonation scheme and learning about how un-salvageable parts are sent to the Royal Mint to be turned into jewellery. https://lnkd.in/etWCz2u5 The Remakery is a fantastic social enterprise, rightly recognised for their work reducing tech waste, refurbishing it for affordable sale and donation to end #DigitalPoverty. They offer corporate tech recycling ♻️ services and provide high quality skilled jobs for local people. One challenge we discussed was the issue of skills provision for this niche and growing area of the #GreenEconomy. We could have chatted about that for hours! #SkillsForTheGreenEconomy #ReduceReuseRecycle #CircularEconony
The climate week begins, and so does the adventure of our Tech Donation Box with Scottish Funding Council 💚 Together, we’re giving old devices a second life and keeping them out of the landfill! 🌍 By donating end of life tech to us, we’re collectively cutting down e-waste and making a positive impact on the environment! 🌱 Join us this Climate Week in the fight for a greener future 💚
