Visit our website to read posts about embedded artists, creative collaboration, imagining climate-ready futures, greening culture and more. Our final instalment of the week is 'The story of using influence as a funder', a Q&A with Nick Addington from William Grant Foundation and Ben Twist, Director of Creative Carbon Scotland. They discuss how to apply a ‘climate lens’ to funding, challenges for funders to overcome and future steps and sustainability commitments. https://lnkd.in/eAB68VYU NPC (New Philanthropy Capital) Association of Charitable Foundations The Robertson Trust Environmental Funders Network Creative Scotland Net Zero Scotland Scottish Contemporary Art Network Scottish Communities Climate Action Network (SCCAN)

🌍 ECHO's Journey Towards a Greener Future ECHO is advancing its commitment to sustainability with the SHIFT Culture eco-certification for cultural networks. Recently, our team joined an insightful online workshop led by Creative Carbon Scotland, connecting with fellow networks working toward eco-certification. The workshop provided valuable tools, inspiration, and actionable ideas to support our green initiatives. Engaging with like-minded networks reinforces our dedication to sustainable practices across the cultural sector, and we’re excited to apply these insights as we prepare for the upcoming certification audit. Federico Rinaldi, network manager, underlines that "the exchange of best practices is invaluable, inspiring creative approaches to the challenges we face. It’s also incredibly rewarding to share this journey with colleagues from other networks, as we're all working towards the same goals". Jacqueline Amoranto, green-team intern at ECHO and ELIA, shared her impressions and main learnings in an article:

This morning we were delighted to welcome Dr Alasdair Allan MSP, Acting Minister for Climate Action, at the Creative Carbon Scotland office for a #LivingWageWeek visit. We discussed the ways we ensure fair work and living wage practices are observed in our work, both internally and in our external relationships, including working with artists and freelancers. We see the need to address climate change as an opportunity to build a better Scotland, and the living wage is part of this wider movement to make the whole world a better place. We also discussed our work of encouraging and equipping individuals, organisations and strategic bodies to harness the role of culture in achieving transformational change to an environmentally sustainable Scotland. Our work and our success is all down to relationships with the cultural sector and climate change field. We spoke about the support we offer sustainability specialists to embed creative practices into their work; and the ways in which we help the cultural sector address its environmental impact and use their influence. Our collaborative approach and utilising creative practices allows us to find different ways of approaching climate change projects, and we strive to embed climate justice principles in everything we do. Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for a SPRINGBOARD local assembly at the Barn (Woodend Arts Limited) with Aberdeen Performing Arts, NESCAN Hub and Climate Ready Aberdeenshire! We hope the discussions inspire exciting future culture-climate collaborations.
Weaver of stories: connecting science, data & textiles. Cultural crofter: supporting sustainable and seasonal development of creative practice.
I spent a fascinating morning at The Barn, Banchory today as part of a Creative Carbon Scotland Springboard Local Assembly. We discussed the role for arts and culture in imagining new futures *with* communities, identifying localised global challenges, and (en)visioning creative futures that embed resilience. We talked about allowing space to experiment and iterate, the need to avoid “cookbook” styles of generating and implementing ideas, and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable along the way. We questioned who was in the room and who was missing, ways to increase the diversity of voice, and where the power to effect change sits. We imagined a world where artists are embedded within communities, helping to tell all the different stories about who we are and what we care about, and where that labour and expertise is valued and appropriately compensated. It happens already on a small scale, and there are huge opportunities to extend the breadth and depth of these interactions. Let’s make that happen! Purpose. People. Planet. Place. Profit.

"Organisers of more than 40 art fairs, including Art Basel, Frieze and Tefaf, have pledged to halve their greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in a new alliance formed by Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC)." - Melanie Gerlis, FT Today we are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking initiative: GCC has convened an alliance of leading art fairs to address their environmental impacts collectively: Feria ARCO, Art Basel , CHART, Easyfairs, ESTE ARTE, Frieze, Liste Art Fair Basel, Market Art Fair, Ramsay Fairs, STAGE Bregenz, TEFAF , The Art Show, and Untitled Art. This project, over a year in development, sets an important precedent for collaborative climate action within the art world. We hope this will mark a pivotal moment for environmental responsibility in the industry. Central to this initiative is the Art Fair Toolkit for Environmental Responsibility, developed in partnership with environmental experts and the alliance of art fairs. The toolkit provides a clear, actionable roadmap to help art fairs significantly reduce their environmental footprint by the end of this decade. To reinforce their commitment, all participating fairs have co-signed a statement pledging to implement the toolkit's strategies and collaborate in meeting ambitious sustainability targets. https://lnkd.in/eREeC6aa
