About us

In the 1920s the Midland Bank was one of the largest and most powerful in the world. To celebrate its achievements, the bank wanted a new London headquarters – a building that would stand out from the strait-laced Victorian architecture of The City. There was only one person to turn to: Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, known to friends and family as ‘Ned.’  Lutyens, who was an architect for the rich and famous, spent the next four years drafting a vast 29,450sqm Grade-I listed building, designed to convey the impression of dependability and security demanded by a bank. The Midland Bank was later bought by HSBC, which remained in the building until 2007 when it relocated to a new head office in Canary Wharf.  Five years later, in 2012, Ron Burkle fell in love with the space and saw an opportunity to create a new approach to hospitality. He set about transforming the building into The Ned. The opening of The Ned in 2017 was one of London’s most ambitious hotel launches in recent decades, with a team working tirelessly for five years to repurpose the iconic building and make it relevant once again.  The Ned expanded in 2022 to include The Ned NoMad in New York and The Ned Doha in Qatar, with each building having their own architectural significance and history. Coming in 2024 is Ned's Club Washington, DC, the very first standalone members only property. Regardless of location, the ethos of The Ned and Ned's Club remains the same; to create a space for like-minded professionals to meet, work and have a good time. Working at The Ned and Ned's Club means having some of the best reward packages in the business, an inclusive workplace with a lot of fun, amazing teammates and endless opportunities to grow your career in hospitality. #lovethened

  • Today, we welcome the Year of the Snake with a staff canteen takeover. The feast for our team was carefully curated by Steve Othman, featuring dishes and desserts from countries that celebrate Lunar New Year. A huge thank you to Cristina Valdivieso and Alysha A. for organising the event and providing us with great insights into this special occasion. Beyond the amazing food, it was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the traditions and symbolism behind Lunar New Year. Wishing everyone prosperity and good fortune in the year ahead. #lovethened

  • We're thrilled to announce a culinary collaboration with Ivan Orkin, the celebrated chef behind the renowned Ivan Ramen in the USA. Ivan will debut an exclusive ramen menu at Kaia in The Ned City of London, launching on 20 January 2024, and available for two months only. Jack Cohn, our Food & Beverage Director says “we are so excited to bring Ivan Orkin’s ramen to the UK. This collaboration will create a unique guest experience like no other. Ivan is the singular most authoritative voice on ramen, and we think our guests will relish the opportunity to sample his incredible menu.” Ivan’s journey to ramen stardom is as inspiring as his dishes. Starting at a sushi bar at age 15, he developed a lifelong passion for Japanese culture and cuisine. After earning a degree in Japanese language and literature, Ivan moved to Japan to teach English, deepening his connection to the country’s traditions. Returning to the USA in 1990, Ivan graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and honed his craft at iconic restaurants like Mesa Grill and Lutèce before heading back to Japan to follow his dream of opening his own ramen shops. Today, Ivan is celebrated as the American authority on ramen, seamlessly blending Japanese authenticity with American innovation. Fluent in Japanese and deeply immersed in its culture, Ivan brings a unique perspective to his craft, bridging two culinary worlds. Ivan says "with the impending opening of Ivan Ramen in the UK, my love affair with London only deepens. The extended pop-up with The Ned allows me to start cooking in London before our restaurants open and present fun riffs on our menu, especially those tailored to the guests at Kaia." Guests at Kaia can look forward to savouring four of Ivan’s exclusive creations, which include: 🍜 Tori Shoyu Wonton Men: clear heirloom chicken, pork, and dashi broth seasoned with soy tare and shrimp oil, featuring shio koji marinated chicken breast “chasu” and delicate chicken wontons, topped with menma, and our signature thin rye noodles. 🦞 Lobster Mazemen: thick rye noodles coated in a rich lobster broth, topped with lobster meat poached in ginger-scallion butter and shrimp & katsuobushi salt, and finished with house-made XO sauce, scallop floss, and mentaiko crème fraîche. (optional caviar add-on available). 🥩 Iberico Pork Collar Tsukemen: a rich suckling pig pork broth served alongside thick rye noodles for dipping. It is topped with binchotan-grilled maitake mushrooms, pickled spring greens and succulent grilled iberico pork collar. A soft egg adds velvety richness to this bold and satisfying dish. 🍄🟫 Truffled Shoyu Ramen: truffled vegetable and mushroom broth layered with the depth of grilled maitake mushrooms, roasted tomato, yu choy, and fresh scallions. This comforting, aromatic bowl offers a sophisticated plant-based ramen experience (optional shaved truffle add-on available). Get down to Kaia to experience Ivan's delicious dishes before it's too late! #lovethened

  • It was festive lunch this week at The Ned City of London, and what a lunch it was. December is our busiest time of year so it’s important that we look after our team who do so much to keep the show on the road. With a menu created by executive events chef Leigh Pell, decor organised by Cristina Valdivieso, and all of our directors and heads of department on serving duty, it was a great day. We also shared our Christmas gifts with the team, which this year are exclusive Ned-branded water bottles from BOTL | B Corp™ in a festive gift box designed by our own India Davidson. There’s no better place to be at Christmas than The Ned 🎄 #lovethened

  • Christmas has officially arrived at The Ned City of London, and with it, the centrepiece of the festive season. Our stunning 21-foot Christmas tree is inspired by this year’s seasonal colour palette - burgundy with accents of red and gold.   We're proud to have collaborated once again with our in-house florists, Grandirosa to bring in our British-grown Premier Nordmann Fir adorned with almost 6,000 traditional fairy lights and over 2,000 bespoke decorations. Come visit us soon to see our tree and our halo wreath —the largest twinkling wreath in the City—suspended above The Nickel Stage, where live music will fill the air every day throughout December.
