About us
The Royal Parks is the charity responsible for managing and preserving over 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London, including valuable conservation areas and important habitats for wildlife. The Royal Parks are: Bushy Park (with the Longford River), The Green Park, Greenwich Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Regent's Park (and Primrose Hill), Richmond Park and St James's Park, We are also responsible for a number of other spaces in London including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens.

On Wednesday, 12 March, we welcomed nine Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea to help sow seeds in Brompton Cemetery as part of the continued Battlefields to Butterflies project. The Chelsea Pensioners were joined by Royal Parks staff and Friends of Brompton Cemetery volunteers as they helped prepare the memorial wildflower meadow in front of the Chelsea Pensioners Monument.

In 1956, Josephine Gillespie became the first female gardener to be employed by The Royal Parks . With the help of The Royal Parks Guild, we managed to track Josephine down. Take a watch below to hear her memories of working at The Regent’s Park during the 1950s.
