  • Happy 143rd birthday to Virginia Woolf! Did you know the famed author spent a decade living near the Gardens and took a lot of inspiration from them in her work? It's clear she loved Kew from the first paragraph of her short story, Kew Gardens (1919): "The petals were voluminous enough to be stirred by the summer breeze, and when they moved, the red, blue and yellow lights passed one over the other, staining an inch of the brown earth beneath with a spot of the most intricate colour." 💚

    • A black and white portrait of Virginia Woolf. She sits in front of a blank background. She is wearing a black collared dress and a white necklace. Her hair is up.
