We were really pleased to be asked to run workshops this week with the The Sweaty Betty Foundation at the Go London Summer Forum run by the Greater London Authority at the London Stadium. The event brought together both practitioners who work with young people to help them be more active and the young people themselves. Our workshops gave a space for young women to say what they wanted from public spaces, while we encouraged practitioners to look at parks and public spaces through the eyes of teenage girls. This wasn't just a chance for us to get our message across, but also an opportunity to talk to both young people and professionals from all across London and to find out what the barriers and opportunities were in their local area. Thanks to everyone who produced such an energetic and well-organised event. Afsana Lachaux Paulina Turcan Safia Noor and all the others who worked so hard

So proud of the work we've achieved at The Sweaty Betty Foundation 🥹💕 Did you know that globally, only 15% of teenage girls are doing enough physical activity? This July, we're celebrating Foundation Month with a goal to raise £20,000 and spread awareness about our mission to empower teenage girls to get active and stay active for life. Since launching in 2021, we've impacted over 12,000 teenage girls, provided nearly 10,000 sports bras, and invested over £800,000 in projects promoting physical activity. How can you get involved? We're asking for your support through donations. Every penny raised will directly benefit teenage girls, helping them discover activities they love! Read more about our work in the 2023 Impact Report below and contact Sophie Planes at sophie.planes@sweatybetty.com with any questions. https://lnkd.in/ee6CrYez

🙌 Last week was a record number of firsts for The Sweaty Betty Foundation 1️⃣ 1st ever celebration event. Celebrating our work empowering women and girls to get active since 2021. Did you know that -         Only 15% of adolescent girls are doing enough physical activity globally (World Health Organization) 🏃♀️ 👿 -         More than 1 million girls are disengaging from sports and physical activity (Women in Sport) ❌ 1️⃣ 1st Impact Report. In 2023 we created over -          2,000 opportunities to give women and girls the joy of movement! You can read more about our work here: https://lnkd.in/dqECk5mD -         Donated nearly 3,000 bras -         Launched Sweaty Betty sports hijab designed by girls and committed to donating 300 sports hijabs a year to help girls get active.   🎉 Our celebration event was oversubscribed with more than 100 people attending a hot ‘sweaty betty’ evening to hear the voices of young women who are trailblazers in their communities and to listen to our expert panel of female leaders. ♀ ❤️ There was inspiration, empathy, pride and laughter 🤣 in abundance. 💡 😊 My first year at the Foundation, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. Through the power of movement, we are transforming lives. I’ve always been a passionate advocate of women and girls rights and believe that girls are the architects of change. By listening to her and putting her in charge of co designing and co creating programmes, we can start to dismantle the barriers that are impacting on the physical and mental well being of girls. Special thanks to our event sponsor Essenta and Havas Village for giving us this beautiful space, Luke Hill Norton for the photography, and to the incredibly talented Olivia Beckford and the IAM Collective for the special dance performance. To all our speakers, volunteers, supporters and partners, you give us the fuel to keep going. ⛽ And to Sophie Planes for making everything run like ⏰ If you want to join our movement -do please get in touch. Here’s my little memory capsule of the event. It's not every day that you get to meet a sporting legend and champion for women and girls. 🎾 🌟 👩👩👧 One of the greatest joys of my work is seeing how influential women like Judy Murray and Tamara Hill Norton use their voices and platforms to empower and inspire women and girls to embrace movement and sport. Driven by passion, a genuine desire to learn and listen, authenticity AND action. We had an amazing breakfast session with Judy and Caroline Lacy sharing The Sweaty Betty Foundation ideas for our PE revolution and our PACK (Puberty. Attitudes. Changing Rooms. Kit) model for schools. We're bringing the PE revolution 👊 Watch this space! #PErevolution #womenandgirlsempowerment #womeninsport #genderequality #PE #fitness #ourstrengthisineachother #sweatybetty #wimbledon #tennis #joyofmovement Emma Atkins Sweaty Betty Wolverine Worldwide

How can we help more girls find the joy in movement? 1. Give them a voice. 2. Listen to their wants and needs. 3. Collaborate and co-create to provide opportunities on their terms and in safe spaces. 4. Empower them to lead and reach more girls. Motivated more than ever to play my part to support The Sweaty Betty Foundation and all the community groups and delivery partners they work with. #moreactivegirls #joyinmovement #ourstrengthisineachother

  • ? Did you know.... 💡 🔴 67% of disabled teenage girls want to be more active. 🔴 53% of disabled teenage girls said they would take part in sport or exercise if there were more opportunities outside of school. 🔴 54% of disabled teenage girls feel judged by others. 🔴 50% of disabled teenage girls said it would be easier for them to be active if teachers / coaches could adapt activities to suit their needs. We partnered with Access Sport, Nuffield Health and Women in Sport on a piece of research: ❗️Breaking Barriers - Supporting Disabled Teenage Girls to be Active ❗️ Last week we hosted a panel for our Sweaty Betty colleagues with Access Sport focussing on the research, understanding in depth the barriers disabled teenage girls face when participating in physical activity. Together, we have a responsibility to make a difference and to speak up. This panel allowed us to have open and honest conversations, empowering us all to take responsibility and play our part.

We wrapped up March with a 10K youth walk as part of our The Sweaty Betty Foundation Youth Programme and Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) Licence. As ever, our commitment to diversifying the outdoors means identifying opportunities to do so, and that looks like creating spaces for young people from ethnic minority backgrounds to access opportunities to experience the outdoors and join programmes they may otherwise not be able to. On our hike, we enjoyed a circular route along the Peak District National Park starting at Dovestone Reservoir, and then on to Sovestone Reservoir Memorial Forest, Chew Reservoir, and Celebration Wood. The time allowed our team to create a space young people outside of the confines of a classroom, and into the openness of the outdoors. Since then, we have had two young people register for our Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme, and we are excited to support them on completing their expeditions in June. The benefits of achieving a DofE Award at any level are endless, and as many of our participants say, it’s life-changing. So, if you know a young person aged 14-24 that would be interested, you can find out how more on our website! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFce2whi

Removing barriers for Muslim women and girls in sport🌟 Sweaty Betty have recently released a new sports hijab, redesigned to allow free movement whilst remaining modest. A 2023 report by Muslimah Sports Association found that of British Muslim women... 💹 97% would like to increase their participation in sport 🚨 37% are not involved in any sport or activities Sweaty Betty joined forces with sports activist Lipa Nessa to design the hijab, who said... "It has almost been 10 years since I first decided to wear a hijab. It’s therefore also 10 years since my hijab first caused a fuss on a football pitch." All profits from sales of the sports hijab will be donated to the Sweaty Betty Foundation, who will also provide free hijabs every year to a number of girls across the UK 🎊 We fully support the Sweaty Betty Foundation in their mission to help more women & girls access inclusive activewear.
