The Women's Work Lab supports unemployed mothers on benefits to become work ready.

About us

The Women's Work Lab supports unemployed Mums who are receiving benefits to (re)start their careers. Our Mums have generally faced significant barriers to work including lone parenting, domestic abuse and children with special educational needs. Through a bespoke structured training programme and work placement, our Mums gain the confidence and skills they need to move closer to work and restart their careers. Founded in Bristol by Rachel Mostyn and Camilla Rigby, The Women’s Work Lab currently works with socially conscious employers across the South West.

Check out our training dream team! Our Autumn programmes kick off next week and we are so excited to welcome 60 Mums to programmes in 4 different locations; Bristol, South Glos, Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater. Our fantastic Programme Managers Fern, Paige and Sophia (a WWL graduate who has recently been promoted to Bristol PM!) work so hard with our Mums to get them to this point. We never underestimate what it takes to step out of a comfort zone and our PMs are there with our Mums every step of the journey. Now next week it's time for our Mums to enter the classroom and meet their brilliant trainers. These ladies have masses of experience in L&D and facilitation and will be supporting our Mums to make the next right step for them. Iona Alisea Devaughn will be working with our Mums in South Gloucestershire where the training is being held at johnlewis Cribbs Causeway thanks to our brilliant partnership with them. In Weston-super-Mare we have the awesomely talented Liz Ogborne and then brilliant Rebecca Underwood in Bristol and finally lovely Sophie Windsor in Bridgwater. A special welcome to Sophie who also recently joined the team as our Training & Compliance Manager. And finally not forgetting the fabulous Rae Harper who will be taking some sessions and supporting our Bath mums again next year. We can't wait to start the journey with our new Mums and see where it takes us... Shout out to everyone else in our amazing team as the weeks leading up to new programmes are FULL ON including Anna Wheeler, Samantha Cuffy, Sarafina F., Jenease Augustine, Stephanie Rajpura, Louise Duggan, Jenease Augustine, Magda Dworakowska, Chloe L., Timea Martha-Turik, Camilla Rigby Rachel Mostyn #backtowork #training #employmentsupport #workthatworks #womeninbusiness

Today was our first ever inset day, in space kindly given to us by our friends at Burges Salmon LLP. Last term we reflected on how we're very much in the school rhythm, so it would make sense to have inset days too, ahead of programmes restarting. We used it as a chance to have a hug, welcome some new starters (hi Soph and Magda Dworakowska 👋) and cover off some governance bits and bobs. Lastly we are really chuffed that ibex gale will be working with us on some pro bono training for our Mums. Whilst they work up a plan with our talent team, we cheekily asked if they'd be able to run a session with us all on 'confident conversations', which they kindly agreed to. It was ace and we want to thank you to Poppy and Tash for the start of what we know will be a fab partnership. 🫶 Next week we'll be getting everything ready before we welcome 60 mums to programmes in Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater, Bristol and South Gloucestershire the following week. Let's go 🎉

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderful Magda Dworakowska to Team Women's Work Lab! Magda is a recent WWL graduate (Bristol April 24) and is joining the Talent Team as our Talent Communications Assistant. Here she is (right) with fellow WWL grad and Talent Team member Louise Duggan on Day 1. We have SO many exciting plans for our Women's Work Lab graduates launching soon (more on that in the near future!) and Magda will support Chloe L., Louise and Stephanie Rajpura to ensure we are offering even more support to all our brilliant Mums 🥰 The aim of WWL has always been to recruit from graduates of the Programme to ensure that we are always leading with our Mums voices and because frankly they are an incredibly talented group of super women 💛 Magda is the 7th graduate to join us on staff, meaning 50 percent of the team are alumni 👏 #backtowork #Talent #womenempoweringwomen #newrole

Back in 2019, the wonderful Sally Slater DM'd us on Instagram to say she loved the sound of what we were planning with the Women's Work Lab, and could she help. At the time, Camilla and Rachel were building the training programme, so an offer of help from a very experienced HR Director was VERY, very welcome! That little message led to five glorious years of Sally writing and delivering training to hundreds of Mums across the South West. She helped us to pioneer our first ever returnship with Hargreaves Lansdown, spoken at numerous events and been a much loved member of our team. It's never easy to say goodbye to your first team member but we are so happy and proud to see her thrive in her new role at Ghyston. It's the perfect place for Sal to return to her HR roots and really walk the walk on finding work that works for you and your family. But we will miss you, of course. You will always be a part of our hive Sally and we look forward to catch ups soon ❤️

It's Graduation Week ❤️❤️❤️ Always an amazing week for our Mums as we see 60 women across the South West graduate from our 12 week HIVE programmes in Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Bristol and Bath. As an example this 📸 is our Bristol Mums on their first day of training back in April. They have been an INCREDIBLE cohort. Eight of these women have now got jobs, two others Mums have increased their self-employed work significantly as a result of what they learned in the training room and another lady has got a volunteer role that should turn into paid work once the funding comes through. All our Mums will now move on to working with our brilliant Talent Team as they consider their next steps. This work includes bespoke workshops, 121 CV and interview support and much more besides. Congrats to every single Mum graduating this week - you are all amazing as you take the next best step for you. As we always say ambition is totally individual and it's about finding the right path and WWL supporting with that 😍😍😍 #backtowork #employmentsupport

Really interesting Safeguarding Training today with Styles and Faal Safeguarding - so much to discuss and the whole session was totally bespoke to us. It really helped us to consider our reactions and best practice to lots of different scenarios which may be relevant to the Mums we work with. Of course days like this are always special as it means the team are all together 🥰 As you might expect we make for a pretty noisy and animated bunch 🤣 Thanks so much for the expert facilitation Helen Styles - we look forward to the next one in September! #Safeguarding #Training #learninganddevelopment #teamwork

Trees and nature were a theme at this week's awesome team day. Just so wonderful to be together, with the space to really chat and connect. We loved the print making workshop with fabulous local artist Sophie Rae and then time to chat, laugh, eat and just be. So many wonderful friendships 🥰😍 Team is everything and the WWL one is a very special one. Can we do it all again tomorrow please?!
