Performing Arts

Giving a voice to the unheard by using only the real stories of people and communities whom we have facilitated theatre.

About us

Theatre for Empowerment engages with a 3 strand approach in working with communities, individuals and professionals - Share, Interpret, Discuss. Each strand is of equal value to those who participate. SHARE: The facilitation of Applied Theatre techniques and methodologies to create a safe environment in which to share stories; with the intention of giving ‘a voice to the voiceless’. INTERPRET: The development and production of Verbatim Theatre; interpretation equally impacts the writer, performer, director and eventually the audience. DISCUSS: Follow up sessions to initiate dialogue through the format of Theatre in Education; engaging with actor/ audience to judge impact whilst raising awareness through discussion and debate. Our work is not aimed at a specific target audience but is designed with the sole intention of instigating new thinking across the context of a range of audiences young and old, through the strand of Share, Interpret and/ or Discuss. We use only the real stories of real people and communities with whom we have facilitated theatre and have worked with a range of individuals within a range of settings including a refuge for Women, Mental Health settings and a shelter for the Homeless amongst others. All of those involved in our projects, past and present, have been privy to agreeing the final product that you read, view and engage with through the website and beyond.
