In case you missed it, Samification launched yesterday with a 30% discount code LAUNCH30! And what better way to celebrate than with a song from Tiankai Feng! If you're not following him, you should be, you'll get more bangers like this, he's super talented. No longer do you need to wait days, weeks, or even months for normalised data, you can have a file within minutes, which will then be further cleaned by the TCG team as part of your subscription. What a deal! If you'd like to know more about the tool, or even normalise 250 suppliers for free, head over to samification dot com to find out more! And let us know what you think!

  • What's the greatest barrier to clean data? Apart from inputting the wrong information in the first place, it's maintenance. Just like a classic car, if you don't look after your data, it will rust and decay, eventually becoming worthless. By carrying out regular maintenance, and making sure your data has its COAT on (Consistent, Organised, Accurate, Trustworthy), and it stays on, you'll minimise typos, poor formatting, missing information, cut and paste errors, and duplicates. • Little Susan has made it to the infamous Data and Procurement Playground! Here's what she finds: ⬇ The "downward slide of data confidence" 🔁 The "going round in circles" roundabout 🔀 The "swinging back and forth between the business" swing 💰 The "vendor that costs a fortune for a disappointment" vending machine ⌛ The classic "burying your head in the sand" sandpit So, of course, there's something there for everyone! Have you been to the Data and Procurement Playground? What do you find yourself on the most? 🤣

  • We often talk about what makes a good taxonomy, but rarely talk about what makes a BAD taxonomy. From the work we do here at TCG, we can tell you the not so good things to look out for are: ⚔️ it doesn't fit the needs of the business and items are shoehorned into the wrong classification ⚔️ it's inconsistent in formatting, i.e. some categories have detail and others don't ⚔️ there are multiple languages which could create duplicate items (or different terminology for the same thing) ⚔️ it's irrelevant and there are too many options that will never be used or could be misused/misclassified ⚔️ there are too many acronyms, people might not understand what they mean ⚔️ use of punctuation - dashes and dots can create multiple versions of the same items These are just a few of the things to look out for in spend taxonomies, what else would you add?

  • Are you fed up of looking at fancy consultancy models that are all glitter and no gold? Fear not! We have the perfect thing just for you: The Dirty Data Maturity Model. You can utilise this model to easily explain to your decision makers where you are on your data journey to help with buy-in and acquiring funding. Here are the levels: DIRTY DATA - It's bad, it's the equivalent of turning your underwear inside out to wear for another day, you know you shouldn't but can get away for one more day.....until there's an accident and you get found out. You might be using Excel to manage your data (badly) with very little normalisation or classification of suppliers, leading to no or limited visibility on spend. DECLASSED DATA - You think your data is fine, you're using GL codes to classify your spend data, but it's like using a French dictionary for English words. Procurement and Finance talk different languages. You're probably still using Excel, but might be relying on GL codes to manage your spend with limited visibility. DISTRIBUTED DATA - You might have partially normalised and classified data, some pretty charts in Excel and a rough idea of what you're spending. You might even be using some tools, bringing your data together, but it's not enough. DISORDERED DATA - You are on your way to the Mecca of clean data! You're taking data cleanliness seriously, might be working with SQL or Python, and maybe even have a dedicated resource. But you're not doing this regularly... DIRT-FREE DATA - The pinnacle! Or is it... We all know there's no such thing as perfect or dirt-free data, so the goal here is to get as close as possible. This using resources, the right tools, and doing it regularly. It's also the hardest stage to maintain.... Would you add anything to the Dirty Data Maturity Model?

  • Uh oh, did you forget about your goals from January? Be honest, was cleaning your data at the top of your to-do list for 2024? Why not watch our video on the Consequences of Dirty Data, and tell us if you change your mind! https://lnkd.in/erCgs4Sq And, don't worry, you still have plenty of this year left. If you want help on how to start, look no further, The Classification Guru, Susan Walsh, and her team are here to help you! Get in touch today.
