What an incredible weekend at 13 Valleys Ultra in the Lake District National Park🏃🏞 This year’s 13 Valleys Ultra proved to be a milestone event, with new records and record entries.   The full 13 Valleys Ultra route was completed for the first time, thanks to favourable weather conditions that allowed runners to experience the punishing High Street Fell standing at 828 metres, the highest point in the Lake District’s far eastern region. 🗺   Participation in our event has reached new heights, with entries for the 5 Valleys race (55km) doubling from last year. This growth reflects the accessibility of ultra-running, with our mission of encouraging runners to start with the shorter distance of 2 Valleys Trail (22km) and progressively challenge themselves with longer distances.   Beyond the race, our event had a positive impact on the local community, raising over £5000 for the Lake District Foundation through race entries. The funds will go toward preserving and protecting the natural beauty of the Lake District, ensuring it remains a treasured landscape for future generations of runners and outdoor enthusiasts.   A massive thank you to all our staff, volunteers, suppliers, brand sponsors, and, of course, our runners!👏   Entries are now open for next year’s event, and you can find out more online 👉 www.13valleysultra.com We can't wait to do it all again next year! UK Athletics, The Great Run Company & London Marathon Events have formed a new joint venture, Athletic Ventures LLP, with the aim to transform the future & growth of athletics in the UK. The organisation will oversee the delivery of major athletics events, including the European Athletics Championships 2026 (Birmingham 2026). European Athletics Championships Ventures LLP are a subsidiary OpCo of Athletic Ventures LLP & will operationally plan and deliver the European Athletics Championships Birmingham 2026. As part of the event’s governance structure, a Stakeholder Board has been established to provide oversight. As an Independent Non-Executive Member, you will have fantastic communication skills & board experience together with an authentic understanding, affinity & connection to Birmingham & the West Midlands region. Local Olympic Hero jumps into action this Sunday 🚴   We are so excited to announce that 2024 Olympic Silver Medallist and World Champion freestyle BMX athlete, Kieran Reilly, is your 2024 AJ Bell Great North Run starter! 🎉🏃   Kieran, whose spectacular tricks and skills on the BMX in Paris secured him a stunning spot on the podium, will take to the iconic starters platform on Sunday morning to set 60,000 runners on their way at the 43rd staging of the world-famous half marathon.🥈 🙌   💬 Kieran said, “The Great North Run has a place in my heart. My dad has run it numerous times and my Mam is running it this year too.   “I had hoped to run myself this year but I’ve been a little busy, but hopefully next year. Being asked to start the race is a real honour, to be alongside so many local heroes who have done this before is something I never expected to come into my life. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the inspirational fundraiser, Claire Lomas MBE.   Claire made history as the first person in the UK to walk with a bionic ReWalk suit, inspiring runners across the UK and beyond. Over the past decade, Claire completed many Great Run Series events alongside her dedicated support team, as part of an incredible fundraising drive, raising almost £1 million for charities. Paul Foster, Chief Executive said “Claire was a true inspiration. Her achievement in completing the 2016 Great North Run was one of the most powerful moments in the long history of the event. Everyone at Great Run was devastated to hear of her passing, and we will pay tribute at next week’s Great North Run. Our thoughts and love are with her parents Martin & Joyce, husband Dan, and their two young daughters, Maisie and Chloe.”

Your 2024 AJ Bell Great North Run Elite Field! 🏃🏃 The line-up has been unveiled for this year’s elite field races, following an action-packed Paris Olympics this summer.🏅 👏 There are several highlights to this year’s elite field, including British hopeful and 2021 Great North Run Champion, Marc Scott competing against Paris Olympics Silver medallist, Berihu Aregawi, of Ethiopia, and 2024 Boston Marathon Men’s Champion and 2021 London Marathon Winner, Sisay Lemma. In the women’s race, four-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games Champion, Eilish McColgan will take on Great North Run Women’s Champion from 2016 and 2018, Vivian Cheruiyot. 🙌 💬  Eilish McColgan, Great Run series ambassador, said: “I am so excited to be taking part in the 2024 AJ Bell Great North Run on 8 September.
