About us

Tictock Therapy provides support, information and therapy (CBiT) services not only to individuals with tics and Tourette's but also to families and professionals alike.  We understand the sheer lack of services nationwide for those with tics and Tourette’s and are determined to make a difference by providing education, empowerment and advocating for the tic and Tourette's community. Tictock Therapy is one of the only CBiT dedicated services nationwide, driven to make CBiT accessible to as many individuals and families as possible. Sarah Sharp created Tictock Therapy in 2018, she is not only a trained CBiT therapist but also the parent of two children with Tourette’s and Co-Occurring conditions giving her first-hand experience of the challenges faced when trying to access support for Neurodiverse children.

  • ADHD is often seen as a childhood condition, but many adults are living with it undiagnosed—especially women. Back in the day, teachers might’ve focused more on the boy causing disruptions than the quiet girl who seemed lost in her thoughts. (Not all boys with ADHD are disruptive, but you get the point.) The truth is, ADHD can look different in everyone. It even manifests differently between boys and girls. As a result, many girls slipped through the cracks, with their ADHD going unnoticed and untreated for years. Thankfully, awareness is growing, and research is catching up. But for some of us, that help comes a little later than we’d like! If you think you might have ADHD as an adult, don’t hesitate to seek advice. #ADHD #Neurodivergent #Neurodiversity

  • Negative stigma and Tourette’s (unfortunately) tend to go hand in hand. Tourette’s Syndrome is surrounded by a lot of misconceptions that can make life much harder for those living with it. Some people don’t even believe that it’s real, and that people with Tourette's are 'faking it.' 🤔 Which can really create a sense of isolation for individuals with Tourette’s, often leading to serious mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. 👉 Worse still, some may start blaming themselves for their tics, even though it’s entirely beyond their control. This internalised stigma often leads to negative self-talk, creating barriers not just in daily life but also in seeking the right care and support. We’re committed to breaking down these misconceptions and promoting empathy and understanding. 🙌 Education is key, and we’re here to provide it. What’s a misconception that you’ve heard about tics or Tourette’s? ⬇️

Stress and anxiety can lead to digestive troubles like IBS, whether it's speeding things up (IBS-D) or slowing them down (IBS-C). • Diagnosis can be a game-changer for people with ADHD. 🙌 Some people find it freeing. Finally, they have a valid explanation for some of their struggles and behaviours. Other people worry it will be limiting. This is especially prevalent in parents who are looking for diagnoses for their kids. ☝️ They don’t want their kids to be ‘labelled’ or treated differently by their peers. They don’t want them to feel like they’re different. It’s definitely worth getting a diagnosis, but in the interest of fairness - let’s look at the pros and cons. ⬇️ Some of the pros: 😁 Validation and an explanation for your behaviour 😁 Understanding from those around you with the use of a simple word 😁 Feeling heard and recognised 😁 Accessing the right kind of support 😁 Being able to request reasonable accommodations 😁 Less anxiety and other mental health issues 😁 Improved self-esteem Some of the cons: 😔 Negative stigma 😔 Misdiagnoses 😔 Misunderstanding surrounding your condition 😔 Stereotyping In my opinion, it’s always worth being in the know, so that you can have a better understanding of yourself and find the best ways to manage your ADHD. How did getting your diagnosis affect your life? 👇

  • Finding the right therapist can be a whole journey in itself. 😵💫 When you’re already feeling overwhelmed, it can seem like a mammoth task.🦣 Here are some questions to help you get started looking for the right fit: 1️⃣ Think about your goals. What do you want to get out of therapy? 2️⃣ Are you in a financial position to seek private treatment? 3️⃣ Does anyone that you trust have someone they can recommend? 4️⃣ Does this therapist have expertise in the area you’re looking for help with? 5️⃣ Do you get on with this therapist? There are so many factors to consider, but people often overlook the last one. There are professionals out there who may be great at what they do, but as an individual you have to find the right one for you. Every patient is different, just like every therapist is different. 👉 How long did it take for you to find a good fit? Share in the comments if you’re comfortable!

  • It means a lot to know that the work we’re doing is positively impacting lives. (Especially young ones!) We loved receiving this review that one of Alison’s clients sent through, about how her son was now thriving and feeling confident about his transition to secondary school. She supported them with their DLA application and his EHCP - which should work to improve his schooling experience! If your child has additional needs related to Tourette’s, tics, ADHD, ASD, mental health issues or other neurodiversity, we’re here for you. 🙏

  • Tourette’s doesn’t just affect the child who has it… Let’s talk about how it can impact other kids in the family. 👉 Some children have very few issues with their sibling having Tourette’s - especially if symptoms are mild and that’s all they’ve ever known! 👉 Other children are embarrassed to be out with a ticcing brother or sister. 👉 Sometimes kids even get protective, worried that their sibling will be bullied because of their condition. What’s important is that you explain to your family what tics are - especially if they have tics that your other children may interpret as ‘starting a fight!’ And be mindful of this: One of the most common thing that affects kids who have ticcing siblings is receiving less attention and support from their parents. Looking for specialist tic support or therapy for your little family members? We can help. 🙏
